At the moment I have a TM 9100S and it's great but in the next few weeks I hope to upgrade to HD. I have a few questions if I may.
1. If i'm going to upgrade to a linux HD box, is it worth keeping my current TM 9100S that I have now?
2. I'm looking for a HD box that i'm able to use multi boot on with either a SD or USB that's under £400. What box would be the best to buy?

Dreamlife,Humax have a box out there named iCord but you would have to up your price by about 50 quid. Mind you it has major limitations and would be poor value at 100 quid.TMULL

Can you run ccam on the Octagon SF918 HD? Also what about multi boot images?
Would the HD picture on the Octagon SF918 HD be the same as on a DM 800?

I'd love one but it's a little expensive really for me, but if it's the only way then i'l have to.
I'm looking at the Octagon SF918 HD at the moment. I need to know if it supports ccam and multi boot. If this box ain't very good then i'l have to save up and get a dm 800.

Don't mess up with things other than DM800. Great hw, great support, great community.

I have some DM 800 questions.
How well does the DM 800 work with dish motors? I ask this because I can remember when I had my DM 500 it did not work well.
What happens if i'm channel hopping and the box suddenly freezes? Does it have a power switch on the back of the box like the TM boxes?
Am I likely to have any ang big issues with this box?
I'm asking these questions because it's going to be hard to get £400 with being out of work currently. Also my TM 9100S which i'm very happy with now would have to go also. I just need to be sure i'm going to be happy.

If you want a well supported box, for now stay away from Ipbox and Kathrein linux receivers. Wait for AzBox and Qbox HD receivers, and see which one have better hardware and support.
DM800 clones are for sale in portuguese stores for 300€, but I'll not buy one, dreambox receivers are very bad with diseqc. If you have a motor like me, you won't be happy with one.
Cheers.

I have to disagree regarding diseqc.
I had a dm7000 and now a dm800 and setting up a motor is quite easy. Maybe it depends on the manufacturer(I have STAB), but it supports well disecq 1.2 and USALS.
I have never had a freeze in two months I am using it, since the newst second stage bootloaders fixed the freeze problem.
The quality of video produced by DM800 is very very good.
Don't listen to lamers that test the quality with poor quality TV sets.
And related the price:
I bought my DM7000 four or five years back for 390 Euros and now bought DM800 in Germany for 399 Euros.
Since the first time I bought DM7000 some of my friends have changed four or five receivers.
I didn't need to do so, until HD arrived. And I waited patiently for DM800x and I am very happy I have done so.

If I order a DM 800 on Monday then my TM 9100 will have to go.......
I'm just hoping i'm making the right choice.

Hi Dreamlife
Depends how much your paying... cos IMHO at full uk price the HD content isn't good value for that much money... later this year will see more linux hd receivers hopefully with hard drive and twin tuners being available for a lot less.
Now... isn't the best time to buy.

Thanks m8, thinking about it and also looking at the HD channels on lyngsat, I think your right. I think I might wait it out for another few months and see what's on offer then.
I think I might wait it out
Mind you ... it could be worse, you could of been thinking about a 8000 :D

Anyone thinking of getting a db800 and has a tm9100 I would keep the tm9100 for a while is comes in usefull for reading those cards that the 800 does not like too. Also the tm is high spec really. 2 card slots, ci slot and sd card slot.

I read about this in the early days and was concerned, I have my 800 out the box with the HDD fitted internally.
It does not get as hot as my laptop and in the 2 months I have had it I have never had a freeze or lock up.
And trust me it gets worked pretty damn hard.
Tomorrow I will bring my infrared thermometer home and compare the heat in my other box's.

Thanks guys, i'm going to stick with my TM 9100 for now as it really is a great box. Also there is an important saying, if it's not broke........don't fix it. :D

I published a pro test of internal temperature done with pro instruments on Satpimps...

Thanks goran, the data will be useful to see if the latest software has made any improvements as published.
It is reported that a lot of these early problems have been fixed but as we all know it is very easy to pull the wool over our eyes when it comes to sat equipment.;)
