Vantage X211S softcams - what do they do??

I have a vantage X211S (the sticker at he bottom says Conax), what are softcams supposed to do, they don' seem to do anything!

softcam key is a file with keys for lets say DIGITV, you open keyeditor 1.9.
Go in FILE
Import softcam key
save as xxx

Then you load this file with WINUP 2.6
Upload to receiver
file name
files of type: keys
load your keyfile
sen to your stb
