Ok been trying for 2 days now and im about to give up , unless anyone can see where im going wrong

ive tried several guides from post on here ( also tried the how to posted by sonic1 ) , and posted at other places but no joy

ive tried several versions of vlc but no joy

ive tried 3 diff pcs ( all on vista though ) and a virtual pc on xp .. still no joy

ive tried unplugging my router and gone dirrect to modem .. (but duh just realised dreambox wouldve been unplugged too :smilielol5: ) .

my router is tp link wireless router ive forward the 8080 port on it tried forwarding the one to my pc and the one to my dreambox and also dmz my router so every port was open.

my firewall is nod32

ive tried several dreambox images , newnigma , diablo bh 0.6 , lt fifth .. but all hang when trying to connect to pc vlc is running on pc , using 0.8.6i mostly to test (clicking settings , add interface , web interface and minimizing )

i havent much hair left to pull out :conehead: and im banging my head against a brick wall here :smash: , all i want to do is watch a avi via my pc on my dreambox but so far if i hadnt read so many people can do it on here id think its impossable

any help would greatly be appreciated :bowing-036:

cheers

Have you opened up the ports to the IP of your dreambox on your Router?

Try disabling the firewall briefly on your router then try....

hi thanks for quick reply , like i said in my orig post ive forward the port 8080 to my dreambox on my router thats the right one isnt it ? , and ive dmz my router which i think is the equivelant of disabling the firewall as it opens all ports .

i think the correct streaming port is 9090 mate.
im not sure what frontend plugin you use on the 800 as i have a 7020 and use vlcf, but with that, the correct streaming port is 9090 as specified in the plugins xml file.
im not even sure though that you have this file on the 800.but it cant do any harm to try to forward 9090 to your dreambox ip.also make sure you have allowed the vlc application through your windows firewall and any other firewalls you may have.ian.

edit:you also after adding an interface in vlc have to set the default string output chain to http.

ok via main pc disabled nod32 completely , windows firwall is off , my dreambox is 192.168.1.102 so forwarded port 9090 on that ip address

using vlc 0.9.8a i ran prg as administrator , chose tools ad interface , web interface.

chose vlc plugin on dreambox now using blackhole 0.7 edited server ip to match main pc 192.168.1.100 , pressed ok , set as default , pressed ok . and its just showing the 2 cogs and im waiting for it to error out

so still no joy im afraid

have you set the default string output chain to http in vlc on your pc?
plus i trust that you have enabled filesharing on your pc and created a folder to share with your dreambox.

this is important and streaming will not work without doing so.

but this sounds like something is preventing the connection.it will be something very simple so dont give up,im just soory i cant help too much as i dont have an 800.do you have a firewall in the image thats on the 800?just a thought.ian.

edit:ok glad you sorted it.ian.

Can you get your Dreambox to play .avi files correctly and smoothly?

I've been battling with this for quite some time now, and all .avi files i play are not smooth at all and they're very choopy, regardless of what bitrate i play it at...

seems 90% fine , just watched a film ( was 1hr 25 mins long ) and it just stuttered 2 or 3 times near the end

I can't for the life of me figure out why mine is so bad...

Will keep playing though...

What settings do you use for bitrate and resolution?
