Just been messing about with an enigma 2 image for the kathrein and was surprised to find the media player plays mkv files direct from the HDD with no streaming needed. As it's an enigma 2 image then I would assume that this is the same for dreambox 800 images and it can also handle mkv files? Trouble with the kathrein is that it has too many bugs and doesn't run enigma stable enough. So just looking for confirmation that the dreambox 800 has the mkv support.

will all mkvs work if they only have AC3 and not DTS?

as the mkvs here i have working are AC3 and have a container profile of 4.1

the ones that don't work have DTS and a container profile of 5.1

are all DTS mkvs 5.1 or which is it that causes the dm800 not to play it

does anyone have a quick easy method for converting the dts to ac3

ok after some testing... i have converted DTS films to AC3 and they do work fine

however the video container has to be 4.1 if it is 5.1 then the movie will be slow to play and will freeze every so often

so 4.1 and AC3 needed for successful mkv playback

you have a program you check what is 4.1 and 5.1?

yes

i am using media info hxxp://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en to check

if it has 4.1 and AC3 then it should play no probs, if it has 5.1 and DTS then it needs changing

what i have done is used this guide for the audio hxxp://audioconverter.heartware.dk/Tutorial/, it only takes10-20 mins on a full film to change the DTS to AC3, and then for the video i use tsMuxeR_1.8.8b to change the 5.1 mkv to a ts file

that only takes a few mins, so not to much hassle really

if anyone has a single click program to do both video and sound then let me know

also IDC changer maybe worth looking into to change the heading of the film, a 2sec job but i havnt found the dload to try yet

i am using nabilosat 0.7

maybe you are using a different image and that makes a difference?

one thing i have noticed, is if you are running the movie and press audio and change it to demux off it will cause the movie to freeze

but if you set it to use demux off before you start the film , it works fine

i have noticed that on one that freezes for me, and it no longer does

is it possible to activate subtitles?

i see it on PC, but not on dreambox

from somewhere else

you need to activate them in the user interface with the TEXT key if you play them by mediaplayer or the context menu if you use the PVR
