View Full Version : mti AP8-T2NRC vs digiquest

hi all
recently bought a mti AP8-T2NRC 0.2db lnb and hooked that up to my dish, now the signal quality improved generaly on all channels but lost all signal on the MBC channels on 26 east. The lnb i had before is a digiquest 0.3db lnb. So when i hooked that back up thats when i got signal back on the MBC channels. The only explanation i could think of is that the shape at the front of the lnb is different, such that you can push the digiquest lnb further back than you can with the mti.
anyone else had this prob?

Have you tried adjusting the skew don't know if it will help but its worth a try

yes m8 i tried that but whatever i did wouldnt bring the signal back on the mbc channels. Its strange because it reports a higher signal quality on all the satellites like 13 east, 42 east, 1 west.. But i suspect its because i cant take the mti lnb as far back as the digiquest.

which lnb performs as good as the mti AP8-T2NRC but with its shape looking like the digiquest lnb??? for example like the pic attached
https://clarahost.clara.net/www.multimediasystems.co.uk/acatalog/LNB_Digiquest_03_Single.jpg
the reason is because of the lnb holder on my gibertini dish

the dark gold 0.1db looks the same as digiquest lnb. Does that perform as well as the mti??

bought a box of 50 of Digiquest lnb's was glad to get rid of them wont be buying again there sh*te
the best one I use is a Sharp 0.3

I agree with Satpaul, as I posted earlier, the MTI doesnt hold a CANDLE to the Sharp 0.3 which is best lnb on the market - in MY opinion!:respect-069:

which of these lnb perform better
dark gold 0.1 or sharp 0.3
need it to work optimal for 26 east and 7 west. With the mti i was getting 12% extra signal quality on the channels on 7 west but would not pick up MBC channels on 26 east

Holmroad,i have now ordered 2 st Sharp 0.3,and will make my own test with Sharp against MTI AP8 T2NRC.
I will come back with result.

Well I dont know as much as Satpaul about these things, but I personally can vouch for the Sharp 0.3 as I already get 50%+ signal on MBC 26E with that, but got NOTHING when using the MTI in exactly the same setup situation - cant say for the dark gold as I dont have one M8!:cup-006:

I'm not using my motor or MTI at the moment not had time to run a new cable and when I have the weathers been sh*t, when I'm up and running again I'll test my Invacom on MBC then the MTI and see what happens

the lnb performs badly at some frequencies and better than some in the other band what you need is an lnb with .1 across the whole band with a test sheet to prove and yes the sharp is an excelent lnb used them in the past

I am getting 70%+ signal on MBC with digiquest lnb. i want to order a sharp 0.3 db lnb and see how that goes but would rather see test results before buying. As satwyn stated we need an lnb that will perform well across all the satellites (if there is one??) i read the mti has a conversion gain of about 70db. But not sure about the sharp. i suppose if tests come through it will be easier to decide which one to go for .

My three month old MTI packed in ,only H signal working, changed it to my old sharp 0.3 lnb much better, to be fair i think this MTI was faulty from beginning will send my report when i get a replacememt, even tho i was impressed with initial installment

I now got the 2 pieces LNB Sharp BS1R8EL 100W.'
And to day i maded a very fast test with them both against my MTI highline AP8-T2NRC lnb.
I did made the test with a channel here in Denmark with a very low signal
BBC one from Astra 2D 10773H pid 6301.
With MTI AP-T2NRC i got Kvali 52% BER 13000
With Sharp BS1REL 100W NO 1 i got Kvali 46% BER22000
With Sharp BS1REL 100W No2 i got Kvali 43% BER30000 falling out.
The test maded on a gilbertini dish 125cm. In Jylland north Denmark
So after this i will keep using my MTI LNB

Well all I can say M8 is that your location MUST be having SOME effect on your findings, because here in East England its exactly the opposite to your findings in Denmark!
Interesting, but not sure if we've really solved anything as to which lnb is UNIVERSALLY the best!:respect-067:

just tested the technomate and sharp 0.3. On 7 west and 26 east the sharp performed better. i tested on channels only with weak signals. I had tested on V polaizaton channels. overall there was about 5% signal quality difference between technomate 0.2 and sharp 0.3. I have therefore kept the 0.3 sharp on the dish. i am able to get 24 hour veiwable channels on nilesat v channels using the sharp on 1.2 m dish. Also with the sharp i am able to get the Fox series channel on nilesat, which i wasnt able to get clear using the digiquest.

Well thanx for all your trouble M8 - hadnt tested Sharp against Technomate like you, but against the much vaunted MTI - see thread title - but like me (and Satpaul) you also found the Sharp came out tops!:respect-055:

yes m8 the sharp lnb seems to come out tops for now. The signal remains strong on weak channels. i havt tested all the satelites as i dont have the time. Unless a lnb is produced that can outrun it, but i doubt it. However i beleive the mti is still a good quality lnb also. i think the next time ill purchase another lnb is if a wireless lnb is ever produced, although in theory it can be possible.

Thats an interesting thought M8 - wonder how inclement weather or other interference from cordless phones, etc might affect wireless LNBs though?:frown:
red alert
04-03-2009, 01:25 PM
thats true there will be interference as most of the high frequency ranges are taken by phones , bluetooth and wifi... etc. Id love to see that work but then how would the lnb send the data to the receiver and how would we send power to the lnb. if it could transmit over wifi would be nice.

I wish I had read this post before purchasing the expensive MTI. I thought from all the hype that it would do better than my Technosat .02 lnb. It is not a patch on it. The MTI was very quirky giving a strong signal quality on some tps yet terrible on others.
Some signals that I got 82-84% on my TM6900 went down to 66% where others remained the same.
I thought it was a skew problem or distance in/out on the bracket, but nothing seemed to improve it. I was thinking it must have been faulty and was considering sending it back, but after reading this post it looks like MTI is an expensive bit of cr@p.

I wish i also just bought one lnb instead of 4. Well i bought 4 lnb's and out of the 4 i found the sharp 0.3 to have better results. The mti lnb is good it has high conversion gain. For me the problem with the mti was the distance in and out of the bracket and because of that i couldnt get signal on some tp, especialy on 26 east. Apart from that its a fine lnb. But im sure for others with different dish setups the mti works great. The sharp has a smaller design and so works well on my dish. Its also good in bad weather as the signal atenuation is less. Ive tested mostly on weak chanels on 7 west and get as high as 100% signal quality on the frequency 11862 v at its strongest point in the evening, on a good day. i couldnt get this with other lnb's i tried which was the digiquest and technomate 0.2. if i was to put the lnb's in order of which has better quality in my opinion it will be:
sharp
mti
technomate
digiquest
but im sure other people will think different

Can I just check with the Sharp LNB owners - Is that the standard 0.3db low noise universal LNB or the Ulta low noise White case range which you say you get best results with?

It is the white case range the model number is BS1R6EL100W. Thats the lnb thats worked best for me.

Well I personally dont think you'll go far wrong with the Sharpe M8, as I also tried the MTI after all the various glowing reports about it (cost ME about £22 for the priviledge) so only too glad I already had the Sharp anyway to go back to!
Good luck!:cup-006:

I got 2 Sharp BS1R8EL 100W and i did allready have 2 MTI AP8-T2NRC.
I did a test with those 4 LNB on my 125 gilbertini dish,on BBC1 London Astra28East 10773H pid6301.This have a very low signal here in Denmark.
I don't know why getting so different results.
But i found both the 2 MTI giving 3-5% higher signal then the sharp.
So if not going for a few % higher signal,so go for the sharp.
That,s my result.
