can anyone confirm how good sd/hd picture quality is on the azbox and how does the pictures compare with other receivers.
any honest opinions would be much appreciated

I was looking for a thread about the SD image quality on Azbox Elite HD.
This was the first one that I found.

I have more than a week since I am using my new Azbox Elite.
So far I am very pleased about the HD quality but I am very disappointed about the SD image quality. The picture is worst that on my old DM 7000.

Do you think that is this something that it can be fixed by a new firmware release or it's something wrong with the hardware and we have to leave with it?

Are you trying to upscale your SD signal to 1080P?

then try lower resolution, poor SD signal will give poor upscaled signal

My first firmware when I bought Azbox HD premium was 0.9.2880 and I was very disappointed with the SD picture quality though the HD PQ was great. With the latest leaked beta FW (0.9.3180) the SD PQ is actually good, not great, but good.

To be honest I am not sure if I am upscaling. Are you talking about the Video ouput rezolution from settings?

Using 2371 firmware here and the sd picture quality varies from excellent to poor depending depending on the channel being resolved and the recorded material being shown.

From what I have seen, using Component or HDMI output, SD in MPEG2 are at the same level as my DM500S using component output.
SD MPEG4 quality is great as is any HD.

So the problem might be some SD channel in MPEG2.

For more direct comparison, in AZbox HD we should use SCART with RGB activated or components with 576i output.

I found SD no better, or even worse than 2880.

SD picture is perfectly watchable although not as good as it should be.

HD picture is very good.

Is there a difference in picture between SD over HDMI and SD over SCART(RGB)? ( I dont have an AZBOX yet)

Yes, there is a different.
Hdmi normaly is allways better, because it is digital.
Next step ist component-signal and the badest signal is composite and scart.

just try not to upscale bad SD signals that means on SD max 576p.

On Elite FW 0.9.2880 the SD picture quality over scart (RGB) much better than over HDMI (576i).Since the SD picture over HDMI are very bad, any suggestion?
