Advice on Hard Drive for 5200D Super

I've now decided to add a hard drive to this receiver and Technomate suggest a hard drive with an external power supply can cause problems. Does anyone else have experience of using hard drives with a 5000-series receiver and is this a real issue? Also any advice on the maximum capacity and suggested makes/models would be appreciated too if possible.

I have a tm 5200d not the super, and used a hard drive 120gb from my computer with its own power supply formated it in fat32 file system everything is ok.
