Hello,

Do any of you get the same problem as me, which is, the picture quality on Arte HD (Astra1 11.362H) is always kind of rough / jagged? If you're not very discerning you might have to look a little closely to see it.
My receiver reports that channel as being at a resolution of 720p rather than 1080i, if that has anything to do with it.

I'm assuming that all viewers aren't receiving it in the quality I am, because it is poor enough to drive you to the SD version of the channel.

If you find it looks good to you, please state specifically which receiver version and firmware/patch you are using. Maybe also any specific receiver or TV picture settings.

Thanks a lot,

Probably not so good as it is in 720p as you say M8!
Maybe I would notice it more if I watched it - but for instance TV2 Films HD on 1W is in 720p too - and it shows!!
So yes I agree ARTE is not as clear as many other HD channels - but I have a similar stb to you!:respect-applause-00

Hello Holmroad and anyone else,

The thing is though, it looks like a technical problem; surely if it is being transmitted like that to all viewers, then that is worse than watching the SD version of the channel.
I don't understand much about resolution settings, but it seems very poor if a 720p broadcast is inherently jagged/rough.

I'm curious if anyone can verify the problem on a non-Technomate receiver, as I assume some of you may have more than one HD receiver.

Thanks,
Lee

The picture is only as good as the source material, lots of stuff on HD tv was not originally sourced or edited in HD.

Broadcasters employ ordinary people who quite often are lazy or have more important social issues to deal with, getting the right source or conversion for HD is not always their priority.

"Bang it out and no one will notice, dont worry if the music and fx track is transmitted along with the final mixed audio, she'll be right mate!"

The standard is slowly getting better, the picture is only as good as the people who work at a broadcaster.

Hello Tony,

I only see this though on 720p channels, ar at least, those that my receiver reports as 720p. I was also previously seeing the same problem on Anixe HD when that was apparently in 720p. Last night when I checked, Anixe HD was reportedly at 1080i and looked fine.

Maybe I should repost this in a non-Technomate section, as I would like to verify that other receivers are also showing the 720p Arte HD with 'slightly rough/jagged' pictures.
For all I know, the issue might even be due to something local to me such as my TV. I really don't have a point of reference at this point.
However I haven't found any settings on the TV or receiver that correct the problem.
