Dish measurement

Sounds stupid but how do you measure the size of a dish,is it the point the dish is at it's widest?

Yes .. sorta .. but

Some makers don't stick to the rules ...

So two different 80cm dishes may have different measurements and therefore have different surface area.

So depending upon the reason for asking .. look at not only the size but the published gain.

Further to my original post about upgrading my "80cm dish" to a 90cm one. I noticed a 90cm dish has a vertical measurement of 90cm and a horizontal one of 80cm, so I measured mine and it has the same dimensions. Yet when a bought it (quite a few years ago) it was sold to me as a 80cm dish. The way of measuring dishes must have changed over the years!

Thanks for reply wanted to know if its the measurement across the widest part of the dish, or the measurement of the parabola which is the curve of the dish.

if its sold as an eighty m8,its an eighty,and will easily get 1west,usually across the middle though as stated different manufacturers have different ways of doin it

There is available a 85cm which is kinda the same shape as a zone 1 / 2 dish.. which is wider than it is tall (thus doesn't look so big) and it has better gain than a standard 80cm.

dishes are normally measured from the horizontal size but some sellers use the vertical size instead

ajr, you talking about one of them fracarro penta dishes, heard quite good comments about them.
