Hi, i was walking passed a mace supermarket and looked at the dish out side and it seems to have some kind of piston like device on the lnb arm.i have looked at some other sat dishes on some other stores and they seem to have the same arrangment .Is it something to do with the bore sight of the dish or is it for somthing else?can anybody inlighten me?

I think I know what you are talking about as I have wondered the same thing. My theory is that they are for satellite internet but I can't work out why they would opt for something like that when wired internet is so much cheaper and readily available :S
I noticed most of them have HUGHES written on the dish and it seems common for a lot of mini-supermarkets. A quick search brings up: http://www.hughes.com
It could be that internet satellite is used for their online transactions... perhaps it can be considered more secure?

I've seen the white dish with its fancy LNB outside my local NHS clinic and a small train station nearby. Don't see why they would want/need a motorised system of any kind, though.
Maybe I should get a job dossing around at the station - they might do c/s and have a 50inch widescreen in the back room! :respect-023:

thats more like it, for on line transactions. a lot of stores have cash machines that obviously need to connect to the bank to see if you have funds, check id etc. as well.
a lot stream internet radio as well. asda, topps tiles, costcutter, tesco , mcdonalds all have their own radio stations . if you check out the radio channels on your stbs you will find loads.

But is the thing in the middle a piston for moving the lnb?and if so does it help?
If it is almost horizontal in front of the dish, it could be for moving the LNB across the dish, so changing the focus and getting an other satellite position.
If it is behind the dish it is for moving the dish.
Do you have a picture of that assembly?

I think we need a picture.
It could be a "C" band setup.

I have no pictures but it sits in the arm of the lnb holder and seems to push the lnb in and out not side to side..maybe or might be a switch of some sort for broardband i don,t know.it is the hughes dishes as in the previous thread i have seen with a very long arm for the lnb,i thought the dish maker would set the focal point for the lnb so it seemed a bit odd to me.
Not great...
But picture attached.
