Hi Guys,

I guess this subject may have been covered several times before, I just wondered if there is something I can do to receive all the usual freeview stuff on 28 degrees as I can through the terestrial aerial. i.e. Channel 4 and 5 etc. I recently purchased a TM6800 super to get better reception of the terestrial channels as well as all the other stuff.

The problem is that I get poor signal quality of digital TV signals even with super gain aerials and amps and many channels drop out, although I have never subscribed to S*Y, my son has it installed in his room and he can obviously get the full complement of freeview stuff as well.
Hope I don't have to go to extreme measures.
Can anyone help PLEASE!
Mr. Meema.

I have a technomate 6900Hd and on 28w i have no problems with freeveiw. I think that your dish may be out of position or you could try going into the motor settings for that transponder and nudge the dish if motoried either way until you get a green signal, and then save.

not all freeview channels are free on freesat , but most are

and the usual 5 uk channels are all free on at least one transponder if not more

so yes you can get bbc1 , bbc2 , itv , channel 4 and channel 5 free on any satellite receiver

on the HD receivers you will get bbcHD for free , itvHD for free , and luxe tv HD for free as well

the freesat card ( fully up to date ) will also allow you to get channel4 HD too

so your tm6800 can easily do the job from a spare lnb output on the sky dish

if it has a single lnb , change it to a standard sky quad output lnb , very cheap on e bay

TM6800 super does not have a terrestrial tuner. Do you mean 6900?

I have a non-super 6900 and the terrestrial reception is not as good as on my Sony freeview PVR, which seems to pick up more channels than the TM.

Thanks Chaps,

It is a TM6800, I get the terestrial digital channels via my freeview TV, but thanks for all the response mrbleu 500.

I would just like to elaborate a little more on the reply from echelon.

I did think about upgrading the s*y LNB to give an extra output, but how can I incorporate this with my motorised dish LNB?

I currently have the TM6800 super as you already know with a V Box and a 1.2 m dish with a H-H 36v motor. Therefore I have not got an additional LNB input on the TM6800. Plus will there be some sort of conflict with the diseq output if I did manage to couple in a second LNB???

you could use an A - B manual switch , with one feed from the motorised dish and the other feed from the sly dish , the common going to the tm6800

So am I right in thinking you have a motorised dish and a minidish fixed on 28e? If so just use a DiSEqC switch to switch between the dishes. I have 2 fixed and a Motorised, all works fine. No point using a manual switch when a DiSEqC will do the job for you.

several things do matter:
your location and the dishsize check out here:

http://www.satbeams.com/

enter location in search address (like London, UK)
select the satellite position just left of 30°E on top of the page.
on the right hand side in the box "EIRP - recommended antenna size" hover over the colored squares with the mouse and the footprint boundery should lightup in red. Showing you the minimal disc size needed, if reception is possible. the information box on the left shows the pointing information:
Azimuth angle: ###.##°
Elevation angle: ##.##°
LNB Tilt (Skew): #.##° (turn - counter clockwise, + clockwise)

alligning the dish:

http://www.satlex.us/en/azel_calc.html
Select satellite and Enter :

Dish location: City & country
Antenna diameter (width): (in cm)
Antenna diameter (height): (in cm)
Search/ Calculate

if the difference is between H or V transponders (green percentage in OSD shown) it could be Skew (Left or Right turn of the LNB in its holder)
If overall percentage is low for 28.2 channels against 28.5 channels the dish is alligned for 28.5 turn the post a little to the sun .3°
If you have easy access to the dish, take receiver and a small TV outside and use the signal metering in the menu to point your dish.
press menu, in installation select Satellite Setup
Select Astra 2
turn the dish slowly towards the sun. If the yellow blocks decrease, turn back from the sun and see where you have the strongest signal. Fix the pole in the position with the strongest signal.
Now do the same thing for the elevation tilt the dish up and down to the point you find the strongest signal.
Do the same for skew (turn LNB left/right and check against H/V transponders).

Before you do this check the transponder list of your box
for this position you should have 89 transponder listed and 848 TV stations:
from the remote: SAT and select Astra 2 (not all)
press OK and browse to the end of the channellist
if any are missing:
Menu:
Installation > Auto Navigation
Select Astra 2
press OK
search type: TV
network search: ON
Scan: press OK to search.

mr meema.

I have exactly the same setup. You have to install a diseqc switch upstream of the receiver, before the vbox. Then use diseqc 1.0 settings to select the lnb and you will need to use diseqc 1.2 for the motor.

Works a treat :)
