Hi
Have been thinking of changing my setup for long time now i have gregorion 90cm dish + echostar 3000ip receiver.
I went to my local sat shop interested in technomate 9600 hd combo told him what i have + he advised me to update the dish to with 80cm dish will be ok.
What would like to know is do i really need to change the dish? which would be the best.
I always thought gregorian is better performance wise.
Many thanks al

Welcome albondi
A Grego 0.9 is equal on a Offset 1.2 so why don't you try to buy the 1.2 version.
Look at my aventar
For more Info PM me

90CM Toridal Gregorian Dish? Keep it. The db gain would be smaller with a 80 cm dish. You could have more LNB's on the Gregorian (up to 16). On a 80cm dish (4-5). It al depends on your location and what you want to see. The 6900 combo super is a good receiver.

You can't compare the Gregorian 0.9 (Fibo dish) with a Toroidal 0.9 (Wave Frontier dish) how do you put those 16 Lnb's on the Gregorian ?
But the Grego 0.9 is much better then the Offset 0.8 you can say that the Grego 0.9 is equal on a Offset 1.2 but his gian is higher.

giga i live in cambridgeshire (east anglia) and my main interest is football+films i have dragon cam which has served me well up to now,the only reason would like to upgade is that i like the idea of blind search for feeds.
Not sure what make lnb i have but know its .2 i changed about 8 years ago would this be ok for hd or would that need replacing.pleased that no need to change dish ,i can use my echostar to move dish.
Any sugestions to inprove my setup would be appreciated
Cheers guys

Thats really sad with a Gregorian 1.2 = OffSet 1.5 you receive both transponders V and H on Nilesat 7west in Cambridgeshire (East Anglia) lots of football & view Movie channels FTA
Why don't you ask for permission, here in the Netherlands (Rotterdam) we can go till 2 meter without permission but its always better to right a letter first to the House Owners.
Best wishes

Thats to old buy the latest Invacom flansch Lnb for your Gregorian dish:
Invacom High Performance Single-LNBF. Excellent quality in receiving both analogue and digital signals. Feed input 40mm, supply voltage vertical 13 - 14,5 volts. Changeover between low/high band via 22 kHz signal from the receiver. Blue, weatherproof casing.
Connection to an analogue or digital satellite receiver.
Technical Data:
Noise: 0.3dB
Flansch: C 120
Receiving frequency: 10.7 - 12.8 GHz
Oscillating frequency: 9.75 GHz / 10.6 GHz
Switching criteria: 14/18V, 22 kHz
PS: Don't change you 90cm Gregorian dish for a Offset dish 80cm, that will be a big mistake.

Is the advice to change the dish because the Technomate cannot drive it?
A Fibo needs 5 wires to drive it (from memory +36V, -36V, Pulse, +5V & Earth). I don't think any current receivers can supply this.
There are ways around it which others may be able to advise about.

There are receiver who can handel that like my Echostar 3000IP Viaccess but you don't need that today just buy a V-Box and your problem is gone, by the way my Fibo 0.9 & 1.2 make only use of 4 wires.
Fibo the best dish there is.
sorry: my understanding Gregorian = secondary reflector
and I did ask:
90CM Toridal Gregorian Dish?
and the 16 LNB's refering to the Toroidal 90cm Dish.
mahler

The Gregorian type dish with it's secondary reflector is a very efficient arrangement and comparison gain figures against conventional offset and prime focus dishes always indicate a considerable enhancment.
The main reason for this is the optimised illumination of the main reflector where unlike most normal dishes the focal distance is a factory set dimension independant of the actual Lnb positioning.
As time goes by the number of satellite receivers that can run a 36 volt motor system are diminishing, and the Gregorian does need 5 wires because the positioner is an optical type that has a small circuit board mounted in the motor housing, and this requires a five volt feed for it's transistors.
One way of overcoming the lack of a five volt output on standard 36 volt receivers is to use a small mains plugin supply similar to mobile phone types, and allow it's output to provide the requirement, as it only needs a very small amount of current.
The same method will work just the same if forced to use a V-Box to energise the dish motor.
Regards mahler.

Glen, your Gregorian does not appear to be a Fibo type.
Albondi did not state whether his was a Fibo or not. If it is a Fibo it needs 5 wires as I and Mahler have stated.

You must be kinding the Delta Star 1.2 from Norway belongs to the most well known Fibo dish there are.
Those links you show me belongs to my friend Snuffer and are old, why don't you take a good look over here: http://w*w.fibo-owners.com/forum/index.php?sid=83621571ddfb7181882 5ae6bd32d6ccd so you learn a little more about our dishes & Fibo family

Fibo Gregorian dish`s are the best you can get IMHO.
I have all three sizes the 1.2m 90cm and the tiny 55cm
Keep your 90cm fibo, just get a vbox with +5v output to run with your TM.

Hello Glen, I'm just reading from my Fibo 1.2mtr operation manual, and on the connections page it shows a seven pin screw block.
first 2 are 36 VDC to motor, then next 3 are the pulse system first 5v+ next pulse, and last ground. the next two are (SLS) safety limit switch, and gearbox chassis ground.
Hope that helps m8

Hello again Glen, I think at this point to prevent any further confusion and possible ambiguity we need to sort out some terminology because out of the seven manufacturers of this type of dish you have given which come under the Technical description of Gregorian, and probably all use the typical secondary reflector they are not all the same in every detail.
It is wrong to call them all Fibo dishes because the Fibo is the manufacturers name, and Gregorian is the generic name which in my opinion is the best version, and my own advice on the connections appertain to only the Fibo Gregorian which judging from the comments here has a completely different drive motor assembly, but until reading this thread I had no idea there were other copies of this magnificent dish.

Fibo dish`s often had other branded company names on them.
My 1.2m Has a Grundig sticker on. Kreiselmeyer had its own version of the
Gregorian type dish.
There are two different types of motor that Fibo use. The older type and
the newer version. Both no longer made.

Sorry to say but i knew that 20 years ago, Fibo is just the name in general for Delta Star, Satmuller, Kreiselmeyer, Master Focus, Grundig, Etsat & Philips but 1 Grego that is what i call them is not depent on the motor or how many wire's he have, i know Grego's 0.9 who works on Diseqc motors but anyway .............................
Its the Dish with his Subreflextor in front what makes him so special
Take care

You don't need to buy a new feedhorn it won't be better then the old one, with a V-Box you can connect your Grego on each reciever so you not depent on your Echostar (36V) anymore.
My Delta Star 1.2 is connect on a V-Box for the M-Vision 200 HD

Hello albondi, as Glen has correctly told you, the standard Gregorian feedhorn is perfectly matched to the dish, and of course it has a C120 flange interface which technicaly is superior to the usual LNBF arrangement most normal dishes use.
Lnbf type units are not specificaly manufactured or sold for any particular make of dish, and if we attempt optimisation it needs laborious adjustment of the focal distance whilst monitoring the signal quality to achieve good small signal performance.

They bought the remaining stock from SCT IIRC, and knocked them out just under 1/2 price, i was 18/19 then and even that was 3 weeks apprentiship wage money, i was umming and ahhing, but its still going strong ;)
