I know these dishes have been discussed before but in the absence of two and a half grand for an cm/andrews has anyone managed to lock up nilesat reliably in NW england?

m8 I don't know many people who have setup these fortec star prime focus dishes correctly and as a result they perform badly.

If they are setup right with proper gear then they are suppose to be ok, you will need a laser for starters.

Even with a correctly setup 240cm fortec star you would still be very luckly to get the whole of Nilesat in the North West, you would never get Atlantic Bird 4 which is now in the same location as Nilesat 101 and 102.

It also depends which part of the North West you are, with a sat so weak in the UK like this it only takes a few miles between having a lock and no lock.
Example Crewe area you may get a lock but then Lancaster area no lock.

I have a CM 240cm dish with matched feedhorn and can only just about get all Nilesat 101 and 102.
I am just of the East Lancs between Salford and Leigh.

Finally something really important, early next year a new sat is going up to replace Nilesat 101 ( this is showsports sat ) and reports say it will have a tighter beam over the Middle East, just like Atlantic Bird 4 now.
If this is the case then even with a 240cm CM you can forget it.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply, I remember the fun you had with your missus when your cm appeared in the back garden:respect-050:

I'm just a few miles to your west and just wondered if it was worth a punt and no doubt endless earache for 180 quid, but if it's going soon it probably isn't worth the grief.

cheers m8

Hi Keano,

According to Lyngsat, TP 11996 H (with showsports) is on Nilesat 102 and not 101.

Where did you hear about this new sat going up ? this would be really bad news.

You're right about showsports. I can get 101 and 102 at the mo but no chance with Atlantic Bird 4.

Hi Keano,

I find this morning that all H TPs are gone (0% sig quality) on Nilesat. While vertical TPs are fine.

Usually I have no problems with Showsports and other H TPs.

Is it my kit (I hope my LNB is at fault ), or have they screwed us with a new narrow beam ? :)

OK m8 I have checked for you at 09.26GMT and all H transponders are working 100% here in Manchester UK.

Must be a fault with your LNB.

Thanks for the feedback , made me check my setup and guess what ?

A SPIDER , one of those big nasty things decided to sit inside the LNB flange.

Must have been laying its arse horizontaly blocking only horizontal TPs LOL

Pulled it out and boom, Showsports jumped from 0% to 68%.
