dm500 at a remote location. Can connect to CCcam servers or web interface etc remotely. If i wanted to add a f line from a remote location would I be right in thinking it is done with ftp?

What is the best way to do this? is there a program or would you type in browser ftp://****.dyndns.org?

Any help or advice would be great.

If you want to ftp to your box, you need to open port 21 for your dreambox ip address. Then it should work. You can update your files and ftp them back. There might be an easier way though, I read about some dreambox control centre which might make things simpler, never used it though.

I use ftp and DCC (dreambox control centre).

DCC is useful if your router changes the DBs IP address as it has a nice facility to rediscover it.

For text files (keys, configs, etc), I read the file back to my PC and edit it there then write it back to the DB. Note some PC editors produce a file that confuses Linux though.
