Hello

Can someone recommend a esata drive for a DM800 running Gem 4.2.
Make, Model no. and Size?

I would prefer external.

I have given up trying to get a USB working correctly.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi m8,
have you tried the 'Mountie' Plugin (enigma2-plugin-extensions-mountie_0.8_r1_mipsel.ipk) ? this will mount your usb devices for you
just format your usb device as /hdd and 'Mountie' will mount it as /media/hdd !
format the device (drive/stick) NTFS then create a folder named 'movie'
this will also allow you to plug your device back into your pc gaining immediate access to your recorded files without the need to ftp them back to your pc first:respect-051:

Just been through this with mountie, and still got intermittent problems.

I'm now gong to go esata route as I have told this is a lot more stable.

I've had my 800 for about a year and have never got the USB HDD working enough so you could rely on it.

I esata will help

Serial ATA - Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA

External SATA
eSATA, standardized in 2004, provides a variant of SATA meant for external connectivity. It has revised electrical requirements in addition to incompatible cables and connectors

looks like you need SATA to eSATA converter if you mix those.

so what intermittent problems are you having m8?

This is on Gem 4.2 patch installed and using Mountie4GP2.
The main problems were the HD would mount fine for manual recording and time shift. But started to play up on timed recording with the 800 both when switched on and in standby.

Also you could not FTP to hard drive except on very rare occasions. I wanted to transfer x264 stuff over and could not. although not a deal breaker it illustrated all was not right.

It looked like the the USB external would not wake up or was too slow to do so. Some thing along these lines anyway.

enough of this I thought. Time to go esata or sata which ever is the correct one.

Freeagent 750gb USB drive for sale.
