AZBox HD Elite and Premium power consumption

Kinda quiet on the forum these past few days so I thought I'd try something out, who's knows might even be useful information for somebody!
I have a device that is used for measuring the power consumption of electrical items and decided to give it on go on my Elite and Premium.
It reads to 1 decimal place but I have rounded the figured as the readings fluctuate in that range.

Both boxes were tested via HDMI to the same TV.

Premium
Fitted with a 300GB HDD and Timeshift set to ON, WiFi enabled
ON watching a SD channel: 28 Watts
ON watching a HD channel: 29 Watts
Standby: 12 Watts (but is 18 Watts for a minute or so until HDD powers down)
Off (with switch at back): 0.2 Watts

Elite
Connected via Ethernet cable, NO external HDD, NO Timeshift
ON watching SD/HD channel: 19 Watts
Standby: 9 Watts
Off (with switch at back): 0.0 Watts

I would speculate the difference in the Premium between SD and HD channels is to do with the extra work the HDD is doing.

Thats good to know that the Azbox HD have low power consumption.

My dreambox 500S which is considered a low power device, consumes from 13W to 16W (depends if the TP is H or V and the resolution of the video stream), I used an accurate power meter.
It consumes near 7W-8W in standby.

I've only installed a harddrive with the latest firmware and the harddrive is not going to standby after a 1 minute like I have selected in the storage options. Is the harddrive going to standby for anybody using the latest fw? tried 5 mins aswell and makes no difference.

Yes stand-by is working has expected on my Premium with internal Samsung HDD.

Which hardware do you have Elite/Premium?
Internal or external HDD?
Which HDD brand and model?

Mmm will be interesting to see what the manufacturers are doing to bring down the standby power consumption. Under the EUP European directive standby and off mode losses has to be less than 1 Watt from January next year, although they will be allowed a bit more if it has a clock function.

I did a search because of that and I read a site with this:

"Standby functions (e.g. remote control activation of a television set) and off mode losses (occurring when a product cannot be switched off completely when providing no service/function) are a common feature of electrical and electronic household and office equipment (consumer electronics, information and communication technology equipment, personal care products, etc.)."

Since STB linux are providing services in standby (the softcams are still working and other net services) I don't think the EU will consider this mode to be in real standby and force this devices to have a consumption of 1W in standby modes.

This devices never are in standby, they are mini PCs without sleep mode...

The clock .. on a lot of equipment is kept ticking by a rechargeable battery

Stand-by on a Linux STB is not real stand-by has stated before, it is just the video circuit which is no longer used, so CPU is less charged.
This is really like a PC that you setup with a blank screen saver, all the rest is still running.
