I have a client with a azbox premium, we have 1 internal hdd

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB Serial ATA 2

When the reboot the hdd azbox a noise, like a sudden power cuts.

The hdd has lasted 2 weeks, has died.

We bought another, equal, and died 2 days.

Tomorrow we are going to buy another model to test.

Questions:

It is possible to stop the hdd before restarting, so that the hdd does not have that power cuts so big?

I have broken my AZBox and it is the culprit?

Seagate sata 500gb in my PC only lasted a few weeks.

Not impressed. WD are just as bad.

They don't seem to make HDD last like they used to.

Hard drives have a different firmware for PVR.
It makes them run quite and proberly a few other things as well.
There are certain types that they use for sly over here.
If you look on the bay you might be able to find out there hd numbers...

Hello,

As already mentioned in several posts, I use the following HDD:

Samsung SpinPoint F1 - HD103UJ

It works fines (I know at least 5 Azbox Premium equiped with this HDD and everybody is happy!).

In the latest firmwares you can configure the Azbox to stand-by the HDD (see storage menu).
The only thing I point out is that when putting into stand-by the Azbox restart the HDD and then it turn it off 1 minute later.

For your Seagate problem it is possible that 2 breaks if they are from the same series and that there is perhaps a manufacturing problem.
Do you google to see if there is known issue with this model?
Look if the serial number are closed to each other?

My new Samsung HDD Spinpoint F DT 1TB - HD103UJ is not detected on Azbox Premium, even in Storage setting or by using fdisk command. On PC i have created one single Ext2 partition on it and still no detection.

Firmware installed is 0.9.2371.

Other HDD (Samsung HD502HJ 500GB) is detected without problems.

Power Requirements:

Read/Write (typical) 5.4W
Idle (typical) 2.8W
Standby (typical) 0.4W
Sleep (typical) 0.4W

thanks for quick reply I had initially formated hdd after install but I have now reformatted now showing HDD298.1GB P(1) partition P1 298.1GB linux used 4.7GB free 293.4GB should I leave as is or will it still only record as before for a short time and stop

That looks fine now based on what you are reporting. Try to record something now or turn on timeshift and try to pause

EDIT: Hard drives often are advertised as X GB but in reality are less. For example 320 GB is calculated based on 1GB=1000MB or 320,000 MB. They can justify even lower figures somehow also - its all a bit of a con really. In reality 320GB is 327,680 MB based on 1GB=1024MB. So a purchased 320GB drive will show at most as 312GB in systems.

Sounds like it has some inbuilt firmware for standby. Might be a jumper setting or it might need a software reflash

I have a feeling something to do with the receiver setup but not sure
