View Full Version : MKV Playback from NAS Drive, which format?

If I want to playback from a NAS, I take it I could format it in NTFS for the larger MKV files?

Also does it playback ok in this way?

I just stream my large mkv files from my PC's hard drive, never had a problem and very easy to do if you if you use XP.

If you use a NAS you don't care about format on HDD... you should care about using SMB/CIFS or NFS. Just format drives as your NAS desires... ext3 should also work if ntfs is read only.

So just to clarify, what format should I make the NAS Drives, will NTFS work ok, then I will be able to have large MKV files?

I'm pretty sure you are limited to the formats you can use in a NAS drive, I know my Freecom one has to be formatted in FAT.

Hello,

In your NAS you need to format it via it with it's own format, most of the NAS are now linux based so it is better to format it in ext3, if you plan to connect the harddisk into a windows PC later on then if your NAS propose it then format it in NTFS.

FAT32 is to avoid because it will limit the file size to 4GB so even too small for a DVD Rip.

When you use a NAS the remote computer don't care about the internal NAS disk format, because you use a sharing protocol and the sharing protocol totally hide the file format.

If it is possibile connect your Azbox to your NAS using NFS.

there is no timeseek function . when you use fastforward function for example for 1 hour to go forward it can.t play video after press play button . when you press pause 10 or 15 minutes later it can.t play video after you press play . It has a lot of problem with big m2ts files which are bluray files .when you change audio option . the video freeze and it can.t play again . it is not possible to change audio . when you play m2ts files frames drop and some freezements...
it has a lot of bugs . I hope they will fix .
