My brother's just ordered said phone, he was just wondering if it is possible to put Tomtom on it.....and use the internal GPS. It's a touchscreen phone btw.

Thanks in advance,
Dave.

No mate. The nokia 5800 uses symbian s40, tomtom requires s60.

You will be able to get we-travel to work on it.. We-travel is an open source gps navigation sysytem that works through java on most phones and comes with pre loaded maps so no need for data allowance like some other java apps need.

Garmin XT is the way to go with the 5800 mate. Version 5.00.30 upwards works with the touch screen.

Thanx for the info guys....but the nokia website states this

Software platform and user interface
S60 5th edition
Symbian OS version 9.4

www.nokia.co.uk/find-products/all-phones/nokia-5800/specifications

It's actually called 'Nokia 5800 XpressMusic' could that be a later version than the s40?

Someone on another forum has stated that they are using tomtom v6.2 on a Nokia N97 this is also S60 V5 so there may be a chance for the 5800. only problem is they are using and external bluetooth GPS as they can not get the internal GPS to communicate with tomtom.

I will keep you up to date on what happens as i have a N97 and would love tomtom on it like i had on my N95 8G

There is a way of getting the internal gps to work. there is a program out there that you switch on before you turn on tomtom, this proggy makes tomtom think that the internal gps is actually an external gps. T

TBH thuough the internal gps on nakia are sirf star 2 and are pretty ****e. If you dont mind carrying a keyring size ssIII device it would be better.
