When I navigate AZbox to my Public Folder/Drop Box on my computer, I can't see any files there. I have tried movies and image files, but can't see them.

Am I missing something or is this a general bug? Thanks

if you are on vista it's a bit tricky to configure :(

What is left to configure? Is this on the computer rather than the box?

It's more likely to be the computer, especially if you have Vista, do you?

I have worked it out.....mostly. I looked again at the file sharing setup and realised that I hadn't allowed certain permissions.

After changing these the Drop Box still had nothing showing up in it. I was able to add any other folders, so added my Movies folder with Drop Box.

After rebooting the AZBox it showed up. I can now play movies from the computer on the tv. I will now add my Music and Photos folders to the list and make them available to the AZBox. :)

Hello,

Would be great if you can post the access right that you need to set on the file to allow the proper share between a Mac and the Azbox.

I think that this info can help other users...

Thanks,

I managed to play music videos, an mp3 file, and browse photos, but the box isn't consistent or stable, as the files are not always showing up.

I thought it was all my fault, but it was running like a dream, then next time I couldn't see the shared folders. Maybe I could see them if I went into File Manager, but not in Movies. They would not play back properly either.

So I think maybe more work needed in future editions of the firmware, but it is good that these features are there and hopefully will be more stable in the months to come. As an aside I thought it would have been good to have been able to run the photos as a slide show, instead of having to select each one. (maybe this feature is available and I just haven't found it yet!)

For Mac users it is not so difficult to share folders with AZBox, here's how.

Go to Apple Menu, System Prefs, (internet and network) Sharing.

From the list on the left select (tick) File Sharing. Now says, File Sharing On, above middle. On right there are two windows - Shared Folders and Users.
Already a folder with your User name is there in SF and on the Users side for this folder it should say your user name and Everyone. I made Everyone Read and Write (click dropdown on right). I did the same for User. Didn't let me see anything!

Now add other folders to share eg Movies, Music, Photos. Click on each folder and on the right give each user read and write permissions. I thought these were Global doing only the first one, so make sure you click on each shared folder and give read/write to each.

That's it. Go to AZBox and try playing a movie or playing a tune. Remember only certain formats play back at this time, eg mp3, and mpeg are good.

If the folders don't show under network, make sure you have switched them on under network on the AZBox and I also restarted both Mac and AZBox to be sure. As I said above it is a bit flaky, seems to work well one minute then not so the next, but it's a start.

Hope this is helpful. :)
