Hi all ... new here so please be patient with me :D

Right, so I have a Go 300 ... ATM these are my settings:
gps v1.21, boot 4.86
great_britain map v605

So I want to put the latest Maps, cameras and everything else possible. How do I start? I have downloaded the latest maps (from UK & RoI v830.**** maps) Don’t know if I have downloaded the correct version... Also what is the Navcore software? Will I need this? Also do I download the postcode thing as well?

All help greatly appreciated. Sorry if you think what a dumb git ...

Thanks alot mate .... sorry but what is: IQ routes, ALG & cpspeech? And will it work on my Go 300?

IQ Routes & ALG will work if you've got the correct navcore & map

IQ Routes :-

http://www.tomtom.com/page/iq-routes

ALG = Advance Lane Guidance

http://www.tomtom.com/page/lane-guidance

cspeech - won't work on your tomtom :-
Voice Control & Speech Recognition

Speech Recognition
With speech recognition you only have to tap Navigate to… > Address > Spoken Address (or use the Quick Menu) before speaking the city, street name and house number.
Voice Control
TomTom’s most advanced feature allows you to speak a variety of commands with only one tap on the screen.

When you get it - copy your 128mbcard to new one & test it. If all ok, delete everything & then add new navcore, maps & postcode files.

Keep the 128mb card as a back up :).

Hi,

I also have a TomTom GO 300 and I am using the following:

App (Navcore) v8.410
GPS V1.20
Boot 5.5120

Map: UK & RI v830.2305

I also use on a second SD card (buy them from Aldi, best price and they work) App (Navcore) 8.204. Boot 5.5106. Above map.

I use the computer voices which at the moment you are not able to do, this way it speaks the road and street names etc, but do a search for my other posts regard tweeks to VocalizerTTS, if you don't do this then it says "ah1" and not as it should say A1.

To save you looking this is the link:

https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?t=110766&highlight=SatcomBob It is the fifth one down.

Just out is a nice new patching tool you can download from here:

http://www.laradiobbs.net/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=17

I also use yDGpatch Tool. I also removed TT Home and reinstalled it, make sure you remove the hidden DLL files, this way you know it is a clean install.

You asked about ALG, now since doing my last update I now have ALG and I just love it, it is very handy on motorways when you are not sure which lane you should be in.

I use the Pocket GPS World speed camera files, and the voices which you can download from their site, I don't use the TomTom cameras as I like the warnings to be given as "Warning, Speedcamera, 30 mph etc"

I have found a problem you may come across with TT Home stopping working, it comes up with something about "system protection whatever" I am using Vista.

I have put this down to using one of these programs; Registry Mechanic, COMODO Cleaner or CCleaner. I assume it removes a file TTHome needs, the problem only occurs when you try to operate your GO. The only way around it is to remove TTHome and all the hidden DLLS and reinstall TTHome.

I hope the above information is of help to you. Good luck with updating your GO 300.

Thanks alot that is helpful ... will ask more later once I get it working.

So I put these files in the new memory card, as per guide:

Navcore v8.24 Go500
United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ir eland v830.2305
Easy Activator (am i suppose to simply put the file in the root memory card and run it? Well i ran it and got few pop up messages which I simply clicked OK.

When I now switch it on (it stays for a few long 30 seconds at the splash screen) but then I get a message:
"Run in save RAM mode" (flashes then goes away) but the one that stays is "Problem with map - You cannot use this map on this device"

What do I do? I want IQ & ALG to work ....

Hi,

The reason it is saying "Problem with map - You cannot use this map on this device", TTHome will say the same is because we are not supposed to be able to use this map on our GO300's. This is why you have to patch everything.

The version you have chosen works well, however, at switch on after the SD card has been removed the GO for some reason closes down or it does on mine, switching back on all is well, that is if you have patched the map, I assume you have done all the patching, the Navcore, TTHome and the map on your GO300?

If you only have one large SD card then I would use the newer Navcore v8.410, you should read all the information from all the links that Russell gave you.

I am using Navcore v8.410 which IQ & ALG work well, I also get the quick GSP Fix, map updates etc, the only reason I use this instead of 8.204 is v8.410 is the latest navcore. I am still not decided which is the best as with v8.204 you have things that v8.410 does not have but then v8.410 has things that v8.204 does not have.

As I said go to your local Aldi and get another 2Gb SD card and load both versions of Navcore and map UK & RI v830.2305, then you can see which you like best.

What you also need to do is make a backup of your SD card, what I do is load all the files etc, make a folder on my computer, then do a "copy" and paste of the SD card to the computer, you can then do any work ie patching etc on the SD card, if there are any problems you can then erase the SD card and put the backup from your computer back on the SD card. I never use TTHome to make a backup, it doesn't work as well as you doing it as above. Also make sure you "do" make a backup of your SD card as soon as you have it all working, I have read so many messages saying "can you help I did not back up my.........."

Yes everything is backed up on my 128mb card, so when I need to use it, for now i'll use that memory card.

My 2gb came today (ordered it from **** for £4) so Im doing all this on that one, so any problems nothing to worry about ... I hope.

I think I have not done the patch thing that you are on about. Could you send links?

Would it be possible to upload your memory card, so I can simply copy it all onto mine?

Hi,

Last first. Not that easy. If I sent you a copy of my SD card it would not work on your TomTom.

I am glad you have a backup of your SD card, with luck you will never need it.

As for the links on patching, TTHome, Navcore and the maps I assume Russell gave you them in his replies, also there is some good information in my PM to you.

As there are so many links relating to patching I am not able to help with these as I don't know them. I just use the SW from the forums and the information I have learned reading pages and pages of how to this and that.

You need to download the patching SW from the links I sent to you and also the links that Russell sent to you. The TomTom BBS Tools looks as if it will do all the patching you need, I have only downloaded it last night so don't know much about it. I know the yDGpatch... patching tool will patch TTHome ok.

EDIT: A bit of information re ALG which you may find useful:

Sorry I am not able to help more.

Thanks ... so patching with 'yDdraigGoch' as per links on guide .... I clicked on 'PATCH FILE' and then selected the file on named "ttsystem" on my TomTom, but I get a message:

"Error np01 - Unable to complete operation
Reasons :
invalid <filename> OR already patched"

Hi hafek4k,

As you are not using the newer Navcore you don't need to bother about the sound files, just make sure you are using the computer voice of your choice.

So have you also patched TTHome and can use it to work your GO? Don't forget to enable map share updates.

Glad you managed to get it working so easily, which speed camera files are you using?

Appreciate your entire help mate.

I’ve not patched TTHome, don’t use it ... Should I? For cameras I’m using the two folders from UK Speed Camera Files 10-06-09. What is the difference between Zoned & Consolidated? Anyways I simply put everything from both folders into the maps folder. Now when I tested it driving it simply shows an icon but no warning signs.

Any help? I also put music onto the mp3 folder ... works a treat ... Will this affect it giving instructions?

P.S. Simpson works also, anything else recommended? How do I know IQ and ALG works? Does it need to connect to the internet to use IQ?

Hi hafe4k,

Just glad I could be of help, it is also nice to see someone else using the old GO300, I have a certificate to say my unit was one of the first!

I would say yes you should be using TTHome, I am sure anyone else following this thread will agree, one reason you can get map updates, quick GPSFix, set your start and end screen, I drive a Peugeot 207 convertible and have my start-up screen set as that, you can set a password for your GO plus many other things. Before I forget you have backed up your new SD card yes?

So you are using the same out of date camera files as me, I prefer the zoned files, which is best I really don't know, I have always used them, this is the difference between the types:

Single File: Contains all the speed cameras in a single file irrespective of type.

Consolidated by Type: Contains one file for each type of speed camera.

Speed Zoned: Contains the speed cameras in individual files for each speed limit and each camera type.

For the voices I use Liz Whitaker for the main cameras and Crystal for the pmobile cameras.

I see you say no voices for the cameras, you have to install them, then you have to enable them. just go to this link and download the ogg files:

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/speed-camera-alerts-tomtom.php

As for putting mp3 files on the SD card it should do nothing (as far as I know, I don't use) except fill up any free space.

I only use the computer voices, is there a computer version of Simpson? The reason I use the computer voices is the GO tells you more than just turn Left ...... with the computer voices it says eg "Turn Left A1 Speedwell Road" and more.

ALG is easy to test, just set a route using a motorway, then use demo and when you need to be in the correct lane you will see arrows on the bottom info bar showing the correct lanes... No you don't need to use TTHome or The Internet for AG.

IQ routes I am not so sure about, I would think they would get their updates when you connect your GO to TTHome and do a map update, anyone reading this (Russell) can you help?

Don't forget you don't need to connect your GO to the computer to do the updates just plug in the SD card assuming you have a card reader.

As for formatting SD cards I use SDFormatter and/or Flash Memory Tool Kit, for these programs do a Google search I use these as you should not use Windows to format your SD card.

It is nice to see someone given help, links etc and them not to come back and ask a question that is covered in a link, one thing I can say when I started patching/updating my GO 300 the tools were not as easy to use as they are today, if I remember correctly they all and only worked under DOS, for me that is/was no problem.

I think I have covered all your questions and a bit more. Anything else you need to know please feel free to ask.

Just a little story to finish off I use the external aerial with my GO 300, as the 207 it has a Isothermic windscreen so the signals don't get through too well.

Anyway one day I removed my GO from the mount and guess what, the aerial connection in the GO "broke!" If it was in the mount it would have been ok!

Anyway having asked around in a couple of forums where to buy the part I was lucky enough for someone to have an old none working GO 300 and all he wanted was the postage.

So with my broken GO, the none working GO and the correct screwdrivers, soldering iron etc I opened them both up removed the good part, the defunct part from my GO soldered in the good part, put it all back together, "thankfully it is still working", I thought I would add this little bit of information just because :willy_nilly:

I have also made a very nice hood for the GO 300, keeps the sun off the screen, it is made of printers offset foil and looks as if it came with the unit, sorry I am not able to upload a gif of it for you to see, if you are interested in having a look PM me an email address and I will send you the picture.

Once again thanks for the info ... WOW one of the first ones!! Amazing .... And then you repaired a faulty TomTom ... :respect-049:

So do you reckon its ok as Iv put both the Zoned & Consolidated files? I do have a card reader, so basically I simply need the TTHome software, can I get this from the TomTom site? How often is it recommended to update/connect to TTHome.

The simpson voice is not computer unfortunatly, I using the american lady ... do you have any better computer voices so then the street names are said aswell?

Once again thanks mate. :respect-applause-00

Hi hafe4k,

So now you can see my GO300 complete with the Hood I made, well that is one of many, so what do you think, it does help keep the sun off the screen?

I should have said my trade is an Electronic Engineer, so fixing my GO was nothing special, but I have to say I was not too sure though, if you do ever open one up, there you will see one hell of a lot of screening!

Not a good idea to put both Zoned & Consolidated files as you only need one type. I think if you try both you will end up with the Zoned files, as I said I have always used them as I think they have more to offer.

This is the link to download TTHome:

http://www.tomtom.com/services/service.php?id=16&tab=87&TT=16a8b1fe-baba37bd-16a8b1f8-baba37bd-00000002-43vr1lqj4ks3jg8birp54ruhf5

Don't forget you will need to patch the Home DLL's for Home to work with your GO, you will find the DLL's you need to patch in a hidden folder, where depends on what operating system you are using XP or Vista, I am sure you will find the information in all the links you have, if you are using Vista and are not able to find them I can tell you where they are.

How often should you connect to Home, I suppose at least one a week, as every time I connect I get map share updates.

As for the voices I am using the latest Navcore not the earlier one you are using, so the voices are not the same, I think when I used that version I used Samantha a UK Computer voice.

Here is a link for a new stable release of Navcore with a build date of July 18th 09. The Build is based on Navcore 8.417.1255 (credit to TTuser) a very good guy with the TomTom.

http://www.anonym.to/?http://rapidshare.com/files/257104270/Navcore_8.417.1255.zip

I am sure the above will be of use to others reading this.

I think that covers all your questions. I just noticed you are only in Manchester I am only 30 miles south near Crewe.

Hi hafe4k,

Feel free to PM me anytime I am only too happy to help. Thanks for the offer of a drink, I may take you up on that. As for the hood as it is made of very light Aluminium it looks as if it was (well it is by me!) custom made and came with the unit.

As for helping it makes you wonder at time, but when people say thanks I know is is worth the effort.

There was a guy a few weeks back also with GO300 asking for help, so I offered, sent some links and as I did with you some information, after that he just went, what happned I don't know as he never replied again, so as I said sometimes you think why bother, but then people like you come along, you updated your GO300 and it seemed with not much trouble so then you know it is worth it.

The other thing you may you may think is worth doing, I have is setting up a password for your GO via TTHome, then everytime you start your GO you have to input the PW. Setting your home address is a good idea then if it gets stolen the know how to give it back to, but the thieves not only have your TomTom but your home address, I don't mind though as my home address is set to the local Police Station!

I think we should have a TomTom GO300 Club!:woot-035:

This has been a very interesting read.

I also have an old TTGo 300.

Mine is patched with a European map, Can't remember version number, but is certainly an update or two out of date.

I must get round to bringing it back upto date with the latest files.

I am sure my TT does tell me what lane to get into sometimes instead of just "Keep right" or "Keep Left" But I have not used it for a few months, so may be wrong.

Keep it hidden or in your pocket, software wise there's nothing that can be done to your Tomtom. Or could try marking it with your postcode ??
