What dish

For I while now I've been thinging of upgrading my dish. I have at the moment a 80/90mm old Amstrad mesh one (motorised).
I am thinking about buying one in the 1m to 1.2m range.
What is the best one to go for?
I presume that a good quality 1m one would be as good if not better that a cheap 1.2m one. or a half decent 1.1m dish.
Does it work like that, or am I wrong, is it just build quallity you pay for.
Any advise on the matter would be much appreciated.

you are correct: quality & accuracy makes a difference in reception! A flexible dish will make a bad difference in windy weather. Cheap dishes are good for reception in the middle of a footprint ( 19.2°E , 13°E, 42°E, ...)
Take in account the use, motorised or not (motor limits dishsize), single/multifeed, locality, ...
go for known brand that receives good test report.

What are Triax dishes like? Any good? I was thinking about the 1.1m one.
Anybody got one? if so whats your opinion of it?
Any recomendations for other makes?

I use a 98cm funke dish which has been great, it is crap motors which I get through. Dish is about 6 years old now.

go for the andrews 1.2 with matching polar mount will last you a lifetime

Have multifeed setup:
2 x Triax TDS 110 with multiblock
1 X Triax Basic 85not bad stuff (galvanized steel)

Andrews Channelmaster 1.2 with matched feedhorn in your area should even pull in some of Nilesat.

The Andrews 1.2m looks the business, but very expensive.
The Triax 1.1m is probably the way I'll go.
Whats the 1m fortec star like in comparison?
Does anyone know a web site where you can compare the specifications for different dishes? That would be handy.

are you measureing the height or the width
as ive only seen 60 cm amstrad dishes

go for a 1metre gibertini dish, very nice quality and lightweight for a diseqc/usals motor

triax dishes are ok but i hate the elevation adjustment.

I have a Channel Masters dish very reliable and had it for years so I suggest this dish and also get a proper motor with it to withstand the wind pressure since you are going to need it traditional diseqc motors are rubbish for this type of dish so you can't go wrong with it either.;)

i would agree with that as i have one of them dishes on a jaeger 1224 motor, only had it a few months but it is very well made and strong motor.

I have tried quite a lot of dishes, in fact they are 4 dishes from 1.0 to 1.2 just sitting in my garden doing sweet fook all. The wind used to do allsorts of funny things. Than I came across the channel master 1.2m which a friend had, for years, I went out and bought one. Yes it was second hand but like new, and I never looked back. they are expensive new. But if you look around In Local papers. Or L--t. Even Flea bay. I got mine from paper, But use it with a jack and it will not move all over the place.

Having a Diseqc motor, the Orbital 1m Aloy seems to be the favourite, at the moment.

Well, as last I've made a decision.
I've just ordered an Orbital 1m Aluminium Dish.

The manufactures data that backs up wot satpaul said

Orbital 1m Gain at 11.75GHz (dB): 40.5
TRIAX TD110 1.1m Gain (@ 11.7GHz): 40.2dBi (- 2.15 to convert to dB) = 38.05
Gibertini 1 Metre Gain: @ 10.95 GHz: 39.8 dB

Although the figures are not the complete story, you can have a smug grin for making a good choice.
