I recently moved house and brought my 2m dish to here which needs planning permission. The cost to obtain it or apply seems expensive. If I paint it and fit it on the ground and try to hide it as best as I can then somebody complains will it put me at a disadvantage as regard to retrospective planning permission or just go for it and hope nobody complains.
I live on an ordinary estate not an area of natural beauty etc but the top 3 feet or so will be visible over the fence and more from the houses on the slight hill at the back of me. The dish will be in the back garden and right up to the house as it cannot go anywhere else due to the neighbours bungalow.
Thanks for for all your experiences in similar situations.

You could put it on wheels, here's an example of a 3.8m dish that doesn't need planning permission.

are you sure you need planning permission
if its not attached to the building i don't think you need it
down the bottom of my garden Ive got a 2.3 m dish on top of a 10 ft tower built like a pylon
i asked if i need planing permission and was told if not attached to the building i didn't need it mind you that was about 20 years ago

A friend of mine had an issue with planning permission with a channel master 1.2m dish in his garden. He had it on a strong black pole and concreted into the ground, as a dish setup is concerned it looked very neat. He later received a complaint from the neighbour to his right where most of the dish was seen, he was asked to remove it by the council. His work around was he placed it on a metal tripod mount that was not set into the ground, and because it was classed as temporary and not permanent he was ok-for now anyway. I also have a 1m dish 'hidden' away on a tripod mount covered with slabs for stability within a flower bed it has been there for a month now and no problems although I could mount a 1m dish on the house, because this size of dish no longer requires planning permission.
There is a good rough guide for the uk..

I bought some green satin Plasti-Kote paint today so will paint as soon as I get the chance and install it and see if I get any complaints.
I like the trailer mounted setup but my back garden unfortunately is very small. Thanks for the replies.
it should be fine as long as the dish is mounted on one of them ground mounts or fixed to a wooden pallet etc as then its not permanent in the garden.
also i think there is a rule about 4 year thing if its been up for that length of time then no one can complain about the dish or extension etc
