Hey Guys

I use videofab to convert my ts files to avi and it gives good results.
However i do have to mess about a little to get the correct 16:9 ratio back in the converted file.

Can anyone else recommend a alternative to try for my recorded HDD files.

I transer onto pen drive so i can watch on PS3/Xbox or DVD player with USB socket, so AVI seams to be the best format which will play on all these devices.

AVI is just a container so which codec do you prefer ?

If its Xvid/AVI then you cant do much better than "AutoGK" very easy to use plus there's a guide on the main site has no problems with .ts files and its free

Its the closest your get to a full manual encode in terms of quality

You know you can just change them to mpeg or dvd without encoding them at all becuase they are already mpeg in a .ts container

Are these HD or SD ?

A bit of both SD & HD and knew you could change the extention to wmf.
I will give autogk a try though.

I don't think AutoGK will work on HD if its H.264 ?

I don't have a PS3 but I think that can play M2TS files so you could probably just remux the HD stuff that's H.264 from TS to M2TS then you can keep them HD and watch them on your PS3 but I'm only guessing here

TSmuxer could do this in no time at all as all its doing is putting it in another container

Thanks TNT, I havent tried any HD recordings yet as AutoGK does take a while to complete the task. The problem i have ran into now is that the file size is getting rather large (5.2gb) so i bit of editing will be required if you can recommend a good editing tool for doing this, as i have never edited any thing like this before.

Do you mean they are to big after you have converted them or before

After the conversion the file is very large.
Its a six part series which is now one file of 5.2gb. So i was hoping to edit some of the size out of it or maybe compress ???

First do the cutting in .ts (if the editing is only cutting the unwanted material)
merge the cut .ts's to the endresult .ts
convert .ts to vob
one less conversion in between. (if you have windows): HD .TS convertion to vob sample included (https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?t=114495) <= click here

So was there six episodes in the original .ts seems a bit strange ?

As "snaps" mentioned "VideoReDo Plus" is by far the best way to edit .ts files, you can edit out adverts and save each episode as a new .ts file then use AutoGK to convert each episode to AVI or you could just save each episode as a vob or mpeg/mpg but that all depends on what your PS3/Xbox or DVD will play and what size your pen drive is

"VideoReDo Plus" could also create a full DVD containing all episodes if you wanted

Changing them to vob, ts, mpeg/mpg and DVD would be quick because as I said before .ts files are already mpegs so no encoding is involved

How did you get such a big file with AutoGK did you use the Target Quality option ?

If you decide to create a .ts of each episode then use AutoGK you can use "Predefined Size" or "Custom Size" an episode lasting 45mins people normally make 350MB

I didnt play with any setting on autogk. 6x 1 hour shows gave a total of 6:03 and a file size 0f 5.2gb. Doing the editing before running autogk makes sense though:dupe:
