No it's not ruined - use Tomtom home to remove everything on your Tomtom and then update it - & keep updating until no more updates are available.
Then disconnect from TT home & turn off home. Start up your Tomtom (let it boot up) & then reconnect to PC.
Add the map & postcode file from this thread -
https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?t=114868
Use Albert's activation tool from here -
https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?t=112866
First patch the ttsystem file on your Tomtom, then activate the map.
Disconnect from PC & start up your Tomtom - should all work now.

No not messed up - just need to patch the ttsystem file on your Tomtom & then to activate the map.
Is the map working now ?
What are the version numbers of your map & the Navcore ?

the easy activator tool seemed to do the trick with the map problem
then i just used the bbs tools for everything else, lane guidance works
speed cameras work a treat,i dont use iq routes as i drive a hgv,and it tries to send you down some really strange short cuts.now if only tom tom did maps for hgv's then that would be a dream.but all in all well pleased its working again, thanks to all the help on here

They do :respect-054:, but I'm not sure if it will work on a OneXL - it does work on the *20 & *30 units

I haven't used it, but a member on another forum is now using it on his Go530.
Try the navcore_8.070.9589.gox20.cab or navcore_8.070.9589.go530-go730-go930.cab
& the map on there is Western_-_Central_Europe_TRUCK_815.2112 which is in 16 parts - so I'm guessing it will be close to 2gb

thanks again for everything
