I have connected my TM to my router by ethernet cable. When I go into the systems menu. No IP address is showing. Please can anyone tell me what I need to do. Obviously I can't get started without an IP address.

you need to allocate an ip address which your network is not going to use. I use the ip address of 192.168.1.25. set it to a static address otherwise the router will re-allocate a new ip address the next time you repower it.
so set the ip address, the subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0 and the gateway and dns addresses should be that of your router (mine is 192.168.1.1).
any more q's pm me if you want
why don't you read you previous posting?

if you press the red button and your IP is not reconised automaticaly you could have a problem with the router like in my case,my netgear 834pn has this problem,by putting a different router work fine for me,up to today I don't understand why?
I hope you get it sorted
regards dxman
netgear had maybe the DHCP set to off or a limited number of ip addresses set to give away?
HI,
My friend who has an IT business, tested the ethernet cable on his lap top and obtained an IP address. SO the system is working. But when he connected the cable to my TM no IP address came up. He seems to think that there is a software problem with the TM. Any ideas, please?
Wink
There is no problem with the TM. The problem is your computer or your router!
You just know you're cable is ok!

Guys,
Please try and help wink out,
I sent him here from my board, as i don't have this receiver & feel he would be advised best here on satpimps.
Please bear in mind he is a senior member 72 years young :respect-023:
I appreciate your assistance in this.
Regards Compass...
Doing all what we can, this requires interaction from both sides.
@wink:
go in to the menu, select:
System Settings
IP Settings
change DHCP Usage: ON <= select that field with cursor down, switch with left/right cursor
press on the remote: ●
if your router is set to DHCP on it should get an IP address
Did you look in your Netgear router settings? what model is it?
Does your computer gets an IP address from your router? or is it set manualy?
What have you done and tried until now? We know the cable is working on another laptop. This leaves still a problem with settings either on your computer or on your Netgear router?
dxman

there is no software issue for that ,there must be a configuration on your router that is blocking the communication between the router and the TM,it has happen to me the same cable would work on other connections like another pc or a dvd used for an upgrade,at the end of the day if you can test with another router you will see that it will work, you can do manualy but you need to know what exactly is your IP address, it took me a while to understand it ,but I was lucky to have another router, my wireless netgear dg834PN had this problem,my old netgear dg834 it is working ok
so somewhere there is a setting that either it is blocking or disable
as i mention before i hope you can solved and i know how upsetting it is

Giga my friend
what you say it is quite right,it seem simple and easy ,if there is one configuration wrong on the router or something that it is blocking IE firewall on the router that maybe cause a problem,by pressing the red button as you said you should automaticaly see all the IP setting on your TM what ever happen to our friend it happen to me if you remember my pm,I also try to understand my problem too ,in my case i was lucky to test another one and problem solved
lets hope that our friend will solve too with the help of this forum
Because I will be interested too

@giga - Thanks for all your help in the past but I think you are wrong about setting the tm6900 to dhcp. I think you really need a static ip address cos if you don't then the router will re-allocate an ip address every time it is repowered. This will then screw up any port forwarding set up in the router config.
@wink - look at my original reply. i dont think the tm6900 will automatically have an ip address you will need to set it.
there is nothing wrong with setting DHCP on and using this. It is the easiest way to test if the network settings are ok! Once this works you can do what you want afterwards.
Under normal conditions the network address for the Technomate stays the same in the router. My router and switches are switched off on a daily basis. And it gets everytime the same ip address.
You can add as many manual IP address settings as you want. If the network is not set up to work with these you still have no connection.
there 3 players:
PC, router and Technomate, these have to communicate. DHCP is the easy way.
@wink, you have to make a choice what way you want to go.
By the way inviting users to solve the problem with PM is in my opinion not done! Whatever problems there is to solve: do it in the forum, the forum and other users have the benefit of this. For all we know you make an appointment and have a commercial interest in doing so.

@giga , your last comment is fair enough, i just didnt want the new guy to think we werent there to help him. Sometimes I think its too easy to say "look for previous post" because sometimes it takes a while for people to find the correct info.
regarding specifically whether to use dhcp or not: If you are in a house like mine, with a pc a wireless bridge and and 2 laptops then depending on how many laptops are turned on you will get a different ip address each time the tm is repowered. There is absolutely nothing to lose by having a static ip address for the stb but it can cause complications otherwise.
@wink If you are still having problems come back and we'll try to get you sorted. It's much simpler than you think.
Thanks Joany, I've still not resolved it. I'll give it another go over the weekend. I have a friend who will try to help me.

let us know how u get on wink,.
Hi Joany,
I rang up the guy I bought the TM box from. He said that other customers had the same trouble, and that his supplier did not want to know. How simple is the solution,
Wink.
No it is not a big problem:
Either you use DHCP and have your router setup to give the IP address
IP Settings Automated setup press Red button, that's it
Or you do it all manual.
Look at your computers IP address and subnetmask
go in the Technomate Main Menu
System Settings
IP Settings Manual Setup
with remote cursor keys Up/Down/Left/Right type the digits from the remote when you select a field (Orange color)
DHCP Usage: Off
IP Address: (use that of your computer and +1 and if this one is in use in your network, add 1 again)
computer address 172.19.3.3 use for 6900HD 172.19.3.4
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0 (use the same from your computer)
Gateway: use the same from your computer (Router Address)
DNS: same as Gateway (Router Address)
http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu270/Jan_Gruuthuse/ip%20address/6Manualedit.jpg
exit and confirm your save.

@wink do you know the ip address of your router?
if not then tell us what operating system you have on your pc (vista?)
and the name of your router.
Hi Joany,
My pc is running on Windows, and My Router is Netgear.
Wink
Hey Wink, did you get it up and running? If it is skip the rest of the questions, otherwise continue reading?
We figured already it was windows, XP (home/pro), Vista (what edition), Seven (what edition)?
And you already let us know it was a Netgear, can you tell the model number?

OK wink lets talk you through setting up your tm6900.
on windows start menu find run. This should open a small black box. Type in here "ipconfig/all"
This will then tell you the ip address (this is simply a series of numbers to identify your pc in the network)
you are looking for something like 192.168.1.2
this will tell us the range of ip addresses your network is using.
Can,t find a serial no on Netgear.
No not the serial number! The model number!

hey wink i'm at my pc all night so come back asap and perhaps we can sort it out via a text chat in pseudo-real time
on windows start menu find run. This should open a small black box. Type in here "ipconfig/all"
This will not work:
the command is ipconfig /all
the dos box will close immediatly
first open the run box:
press simultaneous on the keyboard the Windows Logo and the R keys
Windows Logo key is located at the bottom left on your keyboard and sits between the [Ctrl] and [Alt] key:
https://www.satpimps.co.uk/attachment.php?attachmentid=38204&stc=1&d=1256815300
type following command in the run box: CMD and press Enter or Return key
the dos box should open.
Select the C:\Windows\system32\Cmd.exe Window
type in that box ipconfig /all
Take note of the Info showing in that window then you can close this window.
and report back the details to joany
A friend of mine has tried to work things out. It seems that the problem is that my Netgear router is not talking to the TM.

HI!Wink
it look if your netgear has the same problem like the DG834PN
now mine it is working but i had to use differents settings
on the TM IP setting forget the auto settings it want work, click DHCP usage off,
Try this settings
192.168.000.002-or 3 or 4,last number depend of the IP that you are using, mine is 2,cable connected to port 4
subnet mask 255.255.255.000
geteway: 192.168.000.001
DNS : 192.168.000.001
save and exit
but it is important to know your IP address
once you done that you shoud go to the menu of the router at this settings atthached devices and see if it does list your IP and mac address of The TM usualy listed like this UNKNOWN
tell your friend to find the IP address first as it is very important, otherwise it want work,it happen to me so i know how upsetting it could be
You have to make sure that the server that you want to test it is working ,otherwise you will think you done something wrong
good luck

m8 send it back and wait a few weeks got a tm6900 it a total wast of space:9898:
what do u find is worst about this box mate,.
Main question: do you have it connected by straight ethernet cable (not crossed) or by wifi?
if by wifi try the cable 1st and see if that works
if by cable:
If you did not change the user name and pasword these should be both in lower case letters:
user name: admin
password: password
How to Configure LAN TCP/IP Settings
1.Log in to the router at its default LAN address of http://192.168.0.1 (<= click here to enter in your router) with its default User Name
of admin, default password of password, or using whatever User Name, Password and LAN
address you have chosen for the router.
2.From the Main Menu, under Advanced, click the LAN IP Setup link to view the menu, shown:
https://www.satpimps.co.uk/attachment.php?attachmentid=38207&stc=1&d=1256843005
3.Enter the TCP/IP, DHCP, or Reserved IP parameters.
4.Click Apply to save your changes.
eventually you can also reserve the IP address for your technomate in address reservation with the MAC address found in the IP Settings menu of your Technomate:
http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu270/Jan_Gruuthuse/ip%20address/6Manualedit.jpg
Viewing Attached Devices
The Attached Devices menu contains a table of all IP devices that the ADSL modem router has discovered on the local network. From the Main Menu of the browser interface, under the Maintenance heading, select Attached Devices to view the table:
https://www.satpimps.co.uk/attachment.php?attachmentid=38208&stc=1&d=1256844413
For each device, the table shows the IP address, Device Name if available, and the Ethernet MAC address. Note that if the ADSL modem router is rebooted, the table data is lost until the ADSL modem router rediscovers the devices. To force the ADSL modem router to look for attached devices, click the Refresh button.
in that menu you should be able to see what IP addresses are used and if your Technomate is seen by the router.
If you are the sole user of this homenetwork and don't have kids using this network disable the Trend Micro Security Service.
Security Service Settings
Click Security Service under Content Filtering on the Main menu to get the Security Service

Wink
no the port is active: if cable is connected a yellow led should light up at the back. Try red button and see if you get the addresses from the router?
If nothing happens, fill in by hand (select each field with remotes cursor, type digits in from remote:
IP address: 192.168.0.5
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 123.168.0.1
DNS: 192.168.0.1
exit and confirm save.
you should now see the TM 6900 in the Viewing Attached Devices
for the ip address use one you don't see in Viewing Attached Devices

can i just add to this ive never had that red scan button working up to this day has anyone else ? does it work ? ive always put ip in manually
yes the red button does work to obtain an IP if the router is set to provide one. Sometimes you need to switch off everything and restart everything. Most important thing that it works either manually or with the scan button.
When I get the box up on the TM to put in a card share site I cannot match up the strings.
I have. Name
System
ID
Password
Address
Port
Deskey
When I download a cardshare I get,
Name
Protokol (system)
Host
Deskey
User
Pass
Port
CAID
Which of these goes where in the TM box. Please help
When I get the box up on the TM to put in a card share site I cannot match up the strings.
Name = Name (whatever you want to call it so you can recognise it)
System = Protokol (system) (newcamd or cccam)
ID = User (Login)
Password = Pass
Address = Host (name of server {www.satpimps.co.uk} or IP address {127.0.0.1})
Port = Port
Deskey = Deskey
CAID can be used in the filter

There is lots of thread about ip settings and Internet connection through Ethernet cables but I couldn't see any regrading wireless connection (unless I've missed)
TM patch is 688p ATM, do i need to install latest one 703p?
Is there any instruction how to on wireless?

I'm not 100% sure on this: I don't think TM6900 supports USB Wifi?
If you're using another kind of wifi where the ethernet port of the TM connects to this wireless, this wireless should provide the IP address and security settings like login and security key should be put in that device to make the connection to your home wifi.
So test before you buy Wifi equipment and find out it is not working as it should, if you are in doubt get some help with friends who have the networking and wifi knowledge.
The device needed might be a Wireless Ethernet Bridge, hope other members will report on the WiFi and Technomate 6000 HD Super
