I can't remember why my pc had to be manually configured for a static ip address & dns servers, as opposed to the default of obtaining them both automatically?
It's just that i'm having a few issues with dropped connections and reverting back to the default setting of obtaining them automatically seems to solve my problems.
So, why did i need to configure the pc for a static ip/dns in the first place, and are there any issues if i revert back?
PC & DM800 - router btw, configured with a dyndns address.

If you are port forwarding then you need to make sure you are forwarding to the correct ip.
It also stops you getting ip conflicts if you have many components on your network.

it also means that you can configure all your tools like ftp and dreamboxedit and dcc and your browser to pick up the dreambox or any other component on the same ip address every time , due to the fact that they tell the router which IP they are using
think of it like your mobile phone off orange , if you keep the same phone number people know your number and add your details for it , and you use the same number when calling out , so you all know where you stand
if you had a different number every time you logged on the phone network , you could call out but nobody could call you due to frequent and random changes of your number , even if it was narrowed down to say 1 of 256 numbers available
all my pc,s , laptops , linux boxes etc are allocated their own ip on my network , so dhcp isnt used unless a visitor comes here and I give them access to my network on a first come first served basis from dhcp on the router ( auto local dns allocation )
Try configuring your router so that it binds the same ip to the mac address to your clients you may find this solves your issues.
What router do you have?
