my techo 6800hd and 5.1 sound!

Hi i have a question . on my recent techo 6800hd purchase , the techomate is connected with the hdmi to the television and a optical lead to my optical switch, this in turn connects to the home cinema ( all in one) ..
When broadcast , sly arrives in 5.1 with same connection but AS YET,, have not noticed 5.1 from my techomate, just the fronts and centre speakers.. on my techomate
is this MAY BE because nothing has or is broadcast in surround sound??

Hi mate i have had 5.1 sound from my 6900 std on the Thor film channels when we could get them.
Check the sound output setting on your 6800 can't tell you what my setting is box in the UK and i am in Spain at the moment.

thnks for reply the audio on my techo 6800hd is set to dolby m it does say pcm and not sure what that is!! so kept it to dolby,,

PCM is just two-channel stereo similar to how audio CDs are recorded: no surround sound, no compression.
Leave on Dolby, with HDMI between the TM6800HD and the AV Amp if it has a HDMI input.

i have my Tm6900HD super+ set to Hdmi, and an optical cable connected from the Tm6900HD super+ output to my Yamaha AV Receiver input and if i tune the TM6900HD Super+ on channel that transmit in 5.1 digital, i get 5.1 digital sound out form my set-up

hi tony , yes my techo 6800hd has hdmi on the audio menu also .. but to be honest i didnt think that would produce sounds when broadcast in 5.1.
My home cinema has a hdmi that goes to the tv and the techomate hdmi to the tv !!!

Also i am using my home cinema all in 1 as the amp unlike your yamaha,
there is digifilm1/2 on 1w but thats about it i guess ( well for me it is)

Hi Keith digifilm1/2 on 1w are normal stereo, but i ad 5.1 digital from one of the others film channels on 1w ( don't remember the name of the channel) sometime transmits films in 5.1 digital. you don't need to do anything automatically your set up will pick that up. at the moment on the channel HBO Romania its the film Titanic in 5.1 digital
