if you find a suitable HD Sat supported by that Linux and up to your requirements?:
card inside
usb box outside
supporting MPEG2, MPEG4, dvb-s, dvb-s2
eventually supporting a:
CAM CI / CI+
multycrypt cardreader

you maybe cheaper of buying a HD box with/without Linux?
If you're in for an adventure maybe you can find a 2nd hand AZbox HD?
First read some threads regarding this box!

Buy a Dvb-s2 PC card, stick it in your PC, get a decent DVB program (for Linux or Win, up to your likings). As lon as you have a decent modern video card (at least Nvidia series 8x00 or Ati 3xx0) HD H.264 channels will open easily. THen, if you have a card for some providers, you just need a reader and a cardserver (again, for Linux or Win, as you like)...
