Okay guys here goes.

Total noob to the linux scene , please go easy.

My current set up is very primitive , I have a 60cm dish which has an old analogue lnb (dont know if this can recieve HD) and this is pointed at Astra 1 (19 east). This is connected to my Azbox premium reciever, this in turn also has a cable tuner installed. I hope to add a motor and get a new digital lnb if needed and maybe increase the size of my dish when I can educate myself more.

I have followed the tutorials on here and got all the settings up to date. I have Filezilla up and runnning and with the help from some people on here I can FTP my Azbox. I think my main problem is I have read too much information and am not really undserstanding what does what and drowning in it all.

What should I set up first with regard to the plugins and anything else ? all help will really be appreciated.

Thanks.

It's simple.

As you read my "Alternative guide..." - do it.

Bit by bit, you will figure it all out and it WILL work. Guaranteed! Tested!

Good luck!

As for the HW: see satellite equipment section -> LNB thread etc.

https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?t=63936&page=2 - my post no. 51 should answer most of your questions:

OK, here are a few notions to think about...

==============THE MINIMUM===============

If you want to see encrypted channels you need a receiver that either has a

-CI slot to put in a CAM like Diablo or a

-built-in card reader or a

-USB port to hook a USB card reader

-LAN port to connect to the internet and become a part of a Card Sharing [CS] network

...or all four is best! :D

=================EXTRAS========== ======

Usually, the new kind of receivers [especially the Linux based ones] have an Emulator written for them, which can open the encrypted but hacked packages [like DigiTV on Thor 1'W].

In that case they can - most of the time - do the CS thing, as well. That way you can open just about any package, as a part of a CS network.

The way to do it is to buy a sub and then share with people in other countries. That way no damage is done. Actually, it is in the interest of the companies that we buy the subs... ;)

You can easily have something like that and for not much money...

Do NOT pay for CS "services" from the little "providers" amongst us! It's an abomination! [And it kills the golden eggs goose!]

Besides, where's the fun in that?!? It's a nice hobby, you know! Better than TV itself! :)

=============THE HDD THING=============

See HD receivers section and find one with an

-HDD built-in or at least

-with a slot to put it into the receiver or a

-USB port to connect a USB HDD to it.

That way you don't need your Hummy any longer...

============THE MOTOR THING===========

You will have to install a DiSEqC motor, too.

The larger the dish, the better.

Best quality LNB[s], too...

Twin LNB's [the title of the thread] give you a capacity to run a Twin Tuner receiver or two receivers at the same time, independently!

You will have 2 cables running from an LNB, one to each receiver or tuner.

That way you can watch something and record something completely different, from a different transponder.

Inexpensive nowadays!

Post no. 53:

Nope, bad idea to try to motorise your typical $ l y dish, as it's too small and inappropriate to be motorised.

You need [let's say you're in SE England]:

-a mast/bracket attached to the highest point of your vertical wall just under your roof, preferably on the garden side, scanning the horizon with no trees and buildings in the way

- 1m x 80cm offset dish with a

-good LNB and a

-decent DiSEqC motor,

-good quality cables and connectors.

That'll do for the outside bit.

Inside the house:

- a good receiver

- a subscription to a cheaper package [depending on what you need]

- unlimited broadband.

The rest is on this forum!

It will open everything up!

Read a little, enjoy learning. ;)

Thanx Goran for your response.

I am working through your alternative guide very slowly.

With my current setup which satellite should I point my dish to, to develop my learning and understanding of what the azbox can do. I have no sat cards ( have an old fun 4 kicking around) or cams so it would be learing more about the plugins/addons and what they do.

Thanx

That depends on where you are. Your dish may not be big enough to point it at 1'W Thor, where DigiTV is hacked... Maybe 30'W where there are more hacked channels? You need to check the "footprint" of a satellite at Lyngsat or King*of*sat... for various transponders!

Either way you need to learn more - and enjoy while doing it!

Hi Goran. I'm an even newer newbie. I am trying to setup cccam but your guide indicates that I should download and install openXCAS but from which site? I've managed to change teh plugin links via filezilla and ultraedit. It appears that the OpenXCAS is in an EMU folder but where in teh tree do I cretate the EMU folder? Sorry if this is very basic butI've searched here this and other forums and I think it may just be too basic for most. Thanks in advance..

You're not following the "guide" CAREFULLY and SYSTEMATICALLY, as required. Here it is again, just the relevant bits, since I am asked to serve it all up for the impatient, with a few more words...

1) Press the HOME button on your remote and go to -> Plug-ins -> red button on your remote [= "add plug-in"] -> edit the links

Here are mine:
http://techsat.info/AZPlugins (http://azupd.com/)
http://azboxworld.com (http://azboxworld.com/)
http://www.islaremota.com/azp - thanx to the guys from azboxhd.es/foro/foro.php
http://www.descargas.azboxhd.es (http://www.descargas.azboxhd.es/) – not sure who is behind this one...

One can edit them by pressing the blue button. Leave one of the links in each of the two parts as azboxworld.com - the "semi-official" one, as it were....

A note: one gets the sign " / " by pressing the CAPS/NUM on your remote a couple of times, then 1 = / etc. etc. Also, use that button to change between the caps, numbers etc.

7) Let’s start downloading plug-ins into AZbox HD

Make sure you're online ["connected"] for the next step. How? HOME -> Settings -> System Information. If you cannot see “connected”, that is to say an IP address assigned to your AZbox HD, the first thing you can do is to reboot. Then, if you're still not online, check the LAN cable or your wireless settings, your modem/router etc.

When you are online, download and install OpenXCAS [press HOME -> Plug-in -> Add plug-in, which is done by pressing the red button] -> and when you're done - reboot!!!
This will allow you to download and install directly into AZbox HD various Emulators/CS SW/”plug-ins”, which will either read or emulate original and pirate smartcards, connect to your peers/servers in terms of Card Sharing [CS] etc.

If you cannot do it, that is because you do not have the links from which to do it, as they do not come included in official FWs. There are different ways of adding them to your AZbox HD Menu:

Support servers, full of “plug-ins”... of all sorts!!!

Now one can quickly and easily (rather than file-by-file, via FTP, which we will describe later on) download directly into your AZbox HD and automatically install – if one is connected to the net...

Etc. etc.

See how to add/install and configure MultiCAS, at the end of the "Guide" or how to change keys via remote in the middle of the "guide" [you can also do it via telesat's MultiCAS Edit programme]... ;)

well i'm no expert a recent newbie like yourself but if you followed gorans instructions in post6 and installed openxcas if you then click on and enter the openxcas menu then scroll to download executable you will be presented with 4no urls ( i use _http://techsat.info/AZCamd)it[/url] will start to download a plugin choice select multicas 1.62c or latest version it will then download and self install reboot machine then try 1deg w and if you scroll through tv channels near the end of bouquet list you will find the d*g* tv channels and all should clear except for d*g* film1+2

if you want some practise of ftp use filezilla enter ip address of azbox user root password azbox and connect click on root > emu>plugins>openxcas>multicas then right click on files >file attributes and see if files have 775 cmd
hope this is of some use cheers automan2

Thanks for that , I had previously tried that, no joy though. I was a bit confused which to use and what worked , I had previously tried both multicas and I think its called mgcamd and gave up when I did'nt get anything. The only cam I have been able to get to work is cheopscamd.
I will give it another go , also one more question please. If you download the executable do you still have to chmod files to 755.

no the multicas install should do that for you did you also check if multicas is active and the others not
that is to say in the cam activation menu was there no # sign before multicas and a #sign on the others

as i said before i'm no expert but you could try this go to plugins press red button to add plugin
press blue button to edit one of the urls to _http://techsat.info/AZPlugins then click on the url and download TechSat_AZK when installed click on TechSat_AZK then click on download multicas keys you should then be able to see a list of visible channels then go to tv and try digi sport and see if it clears

plugins >opencas>camd activation use blue button to switch on or off # sign so it looks like multicas and not #multicas
