multi lnb quicker channel change onto other sats, but limited number of sats available, motorised more versatile with a good arc(location) picks up many more sats but have to wait a few seconds for it to move,id always favour motorised,

As simon says basically...

Think of it like this... AFAIK, you can only have up to 4 lnbs as a maximum, which all have to be quite close to each other. So, you'd be able to get 13e, 16e, 19.2e and 28.2e. However, you will then miss out on 1w, 5e, 9e etc. There's some quite good channels on these sats, so you wouldn't get them!

However, if you have 13e, 16e, 19.2e and 28.2e, then changing channels between them is virtually instant. However, with the motor, to go from 28.2e to 13e will take approx 15-20secs or so (well, it does for me). So, if you are impatient, then it's not so good. Say, for eg, you wanted to go from 42e to 30w, this would take around 40-60secs (not entirely sure as haven't done it for a while), so isn't very fast!

So, what satellites is it you're wanting?! Think about this, and then you'll be able to answer your question. If you'll only want sats of around a similar distance apart as those specified (13e to 28.2e), then a multi lnb will be fine. However, if you would like to explore sats from 30w to 42e (or further depending on what you can actually receive with your sat setup), then a motorised would be better!

I m sure My friend Glenn won't mind me posting His 6 lnb setup

And a nice setup it is :D

I was looking for the limits by this ordinary Triax 1.10 with a little patient and 6 Lnb's you can receive without moving the dish 8 satellites.

Glenns location: Rotterdam the Netherlands

Satellites:

1 Eurobird1 / 28.5E
2 Astra-2 / 28.2E
3 Astra-3 / 23.5E
4 Astra-1 / 19.2E
5 EutelsatW2 / 16.0E
6 Hotbird / 13.0E
7 EutelsatW2A / 10.0E
8 Eurobird9A / 9.0E

Sorry, but that's only really 6 satellites, since 28.5 and 28.2 can both be received with just the one lnb and 9e/10e can both be received from the 1 lnb...

Plus, imo, that looks fugly! :p Two dishes, and one with lots of lnbs... Personally prefer the motor, even though it takes those few extra seconds to move the motor...

I did say 6 Lnb setup not 8

Its at the top of my post

And were only talking about the 1 dish

OK then, my apologies. Just remembered reading the "8 satellite" part you wrote...

But in my opinion, the 1 dish with 6 lnbs still looks ugly...

well if we all liked the same things life would be a bore,

I was merely replying to the first paragraph in your reply in this thread

My preference is to use a motor,
but i have fitted many Multi feed Lnb Dish setups where it ins't possible to Fit a motorised system which could be a number of reasons
eg:
Bracketry
The Stand off Distance
Motor Noise
Tenancy Regulations
and Dish Location

Im using dishes with multi lnbs and a motor at the same time with a 10 inputs switch.Im controlling the motor with another box so i can have it as extra at anytime ( and i have a twin lnb on it ).
So the basics all time zap channels are on static lnbs for quick change and the motor is for that little extra ( feeds or special events ).

combination of the 2 is best:
Fixed LNB's for your main sat locations (most viewed channels) (4, 8, 16, ...)
Motorized dish: for the exotic locations and feed hunting.
currently my setup: Dishfarm (https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?p=646296)
and in the process of upgrading to 16/1 diseqc switch and probably adding 4 twin LNB's having a total 8 twins and 4 single LNB's. Replacing 4/1 with the 8/1 diseqc switch and Maybe adding a motorized 1.2 or 1.5 m dish at a later date.
Main advantage zapping time as fast as your receiver opens the channel, you don't notice you're using a Satellite installation, works just like cable distribution, just a bit more channels and better quality. Channels can be sorted A-Z and not per satellite as no dish repositioning is involved.
