Is it USB connect or esata? Very few or non are working with esata. USB 500 GB needs its external power connected.
1st switch on technomate
2nd wait until you view a channel, connect it only with its USB lead, no extension leads!
and as joany puts it: fat32 format, give it label like: TM6900HD
6900HD should pop up message for USB and then PVR ready, if not there is something wrong! check properties of harddisc in windows

I got a 500 gigs connected on my TM 6900 super, and it has so many problems, still a big issue, but i got an idea it must be a faulty PSU,sometime it work ok sometime go to sleep and cause a lot of trouble,on the 6800 super i got a 250 giga and i never had any problems, either there is an issue with big HD or there is still a cockup with the tm Hardware or software

most external powered USB hard disc are problematic. If you use a non external powered usb harddisc up to 320 GB or sometimes 500 GB it should work OK. If you use external powered USB harddisc it is mostly problematic: not waking up, ...

Moved my WD Mybook HE 500 GB back to the computer.

It is now important when purchasing a new portable usb harddisc to get them with a high speed datatransfer. Otherwise you will not be able to record 2 streams.
The USB menu has now a USB speed test, giving you an indication.
