That's just going to check your speed, open a command prompt window and type:


ping cshost:port

to check the ping from your host to your system.

This is what I get:

first run CMD from the run command, this opens a dos emulation box or command prompt where you can enter that command. (C:\) Afterwards type exit to leave that window.

Is your cshost address an IP address [196.200.0.0] or named [myhost.yada.yada] ?

If an IP, use the [ping /a cshost] command to try and resolve the name, will check if dns is ok

If you have typed in the following aon the command line:


ping myhost.yada.yada

and it comes back cannot find host, it could mean the host is configured to disallow pings, and I'd be a wary of using this host as it is an important check tool for potential users.

BTW: If it's a test line, mail the host and ask for help ;)

Sorry m8, you are right. I'd forgotten I'm using an external dns server that always return a ping, even when not found.

What image are you using?

If its Nabilo when you press the Ok button once you get the OSD, then press it again an diags info is switched on then you will see ECM time

I've noticed that if you ECM time is .8/.9 or above you picture will start to breakup/freeze and for HD it will break up about .4 and above.

So although the hop information is shown and of course always try to get 1 hop aware from your c/s then I find the ECM time is the best indication of whether that share is good enough or not

cant seem to find a provider with a decent c line thats why i iam reluctant to pay anyone know of of someone i can try

If you have a card to share, you will have no problems getting a decent share. If not, then it will be harder, but you can probably still get a decent share. Go to a card sharing site (type in google - there's a european one that's quite good ;)).

There, you should be able to post to share to other people, or ask other people to share...

But as a rule of thumb, don't bother to pay anyone ... they get overloaded, and this results in a bad picture for you...

How is your dreambox connected to your router pal?


I had loads of problems with home plugs, spent hours trying to sort it out.
Hardwired it now CAT5E from box to router, now perfect.

As the guys said ping your dreambox to your router via telnet.

The problem could be your set up nothing to do with the outside world.

Check the IP address of your box (Menu-> Setup/System/Network) it will be in the adapter settings. Alternatively, check the front panel on power up.

Next, you can either use the telnet command built into windows, or DCC to send the telnet command.

DCC will probably be easier for you, I've included it here as an attachment. Install it (extract to a folder, no install file) then run it and configure with your DM's IP address and user/pass if you have changed it, then go to the telnet tab and issue the ping command as described above.

If you can't connect via DCC then there is some problem with your setup.

Ex: pathping www.google.com

Mate go DCC open telent then ping your router first of all.

In telnet type "ping routers ip addy", for me I type ping 192.168.2.1

This will tell you if you connection to your router is ok, before looking into the outside world or problems with your internet connection or c/s.

Like I said I had loads of problem and I was looking well to deep into the problem and in the end it was the home plugs.

Also how you connecting to your router with a ethernet cable or home plugs?

Well you obviously didn't message the correct peers. I have a few peers on my server who had no card when starting out. I had no card when starting out... There is a "free peers" section in most sites for a reason ;)
