linux is an operating system (like windows). If your good with command line and an easy learner, then you could look for a linux based receiver. If you already lose your patience in a windows command line: forget it.
TM 6900 HD super is not bad and has good picture qualities (HD and upscalling SD to HD).

What receiver would you recommend for about the £260 price range.

Sorry, I'm not in a position to recommend receivers: I'm a happy TM-6900 HD Super user and have nearly no experience with other sat receivers.
Put on paper what you want and keep in mind if you are the sole user or not.
Compare the pro and contra for the box(es) you have in mind.
Local support: I was lucky to buy my boxes in the local sat shop and have great support there.

super is part of the model: TM 6900 HD Super. A none straight forward operation of a box can cause irritation with other family members if they want to see there program and screen stays black.
