Evening all, If I copy a downloaded divx file and stick it on my external hard drive, is it possible to play that file using the TM6800HD.

If so, how???

I dont think so , you would probably have to convert it into the same file format that the tm produces

As echelon indicates you would need to convert the divx file in to a .TRP formated file (MPEG-2 stream) Super or Handbrake should do the trick and it is free.

can plez post a link for software ?

I did a google search and found it quick enough, however I have to say an hour and a half video clip took about 7 hours to convert.

I decided to use the external hard drive on the usb of my dvd player and play that way!

my mistake handbrake: only one way .TRP > mp4
normaly you take the recording from the STB (high quality) and convert it to Divx (lower quality, smaller file size)
doing some tests at the moment

there are additional problems. when you make a recording the recording happens within a structure (folders and 3 files). The converted trp files put on the usb harddisc are not seen by the technomate while you dont have the structure as needed by the technomate.

You can use Quick Media Converter to make ts(trp) video

I have uploaded a utility in the upload centre to create the necessary files needed tor playback on the TM 6900

Quick Media converter is a very basic converter.I use TMpgEnc or mencoder for top quality videos

note The TM can only playback h264 or mpeg2 video upto full HD with ac3/mp2 audio in a ts(trp) container.
