Dish recommendations

Hello,

I am looking to install a motorised dish in front of my flat. However, due to it being in London, I can't really go bigger than 1m.

It will be motorised by a Motek SG2100 motor, which powered my old Gibertini 1.2m dish for years without issues, so I guess it won't have many problems with a 1m dish.

The main satellites I would like to get are the usual bunch of Astras, Hot Birds and, most importantly, Thor 5/6 and Sirius 4. I know Sirius 4 is quite strong and I had no issues with it on 1.2m dish in Somerset. Will a 1m dish suffice in North East London? What about Thors? Will I get away with a 90cm dish for these or am I pushing it?

Also, what is a good dish to go for? FleaBay is full of non-branded "high gain" dishes but few have gain figures. I was thinking of a 1m Triax dish but I heard it need some "persuation" to go on a motor... Any other brands that are good?

Firstly i would Not go for a movable Dish. ( to many problems ) unless you live outside built up Area.
Get yourself a T90 ( 90x75 ) this will pull in all that you have said.

You might have to get amove on though ( Thor is going down )
Well the FTA will still be there.
Astra 19 = Strong Signal
Hotbird 13 = Strong Signal
Sirius 5 = Strong Signal ( for you )
Astra 28 = Strong Signal ( no problem for you in the UK )

Ah, but I would also want to have 28e + (hopefully) 40e and 53e for Russian channels - these ones was OK on 1.2m in Somerset.

So, motorised dish is my only option :)

I have read good reports on the Orbit 1M dish, as it's on the front I don't think I'd push my luck and try to get away with Triax 1.1M, or similar, as no doubt someone will complain and have it measured:)

channel master all day long simply the best but heavy to use with disecq motors

If you can get one a Fibo Gregorian 90cm! Or failing that Channel master!

The Fracarro 85cm dish is also a great performer:)

Channel master is the king of all sat dishes no doubt about it i agree totally .
i have 2 motorised Triax dishes 88cm can easily get these sats:

42e/39/28/23.5/19/16/13/10/9/5/1w/5w/8w/12.5w/15w/22w/30w/34.5w/43w

19 sats all in superb signals in all sats but i dont have any issues with planning permissions luckliy since i have also a 2 meter aliminium prime focus dish aswell :p

i would say either a Triax 88cm dish on a disecq motor or a triax 78cm on disecq motor size of dish i guess is depending on if you have good line of sight for a motorised dish ? i doubt if you'll need something bigger than 88cm it works perfect for me at least even digitv consistently is flawless .

@Homer: On another forum they said that the Triax dish bracketry is a awkward to set up for DiSEqC motors... I gues they were wrong :)

Another dish that caught my eye was the Penta 85cm dish - has anyone used these? Any reports?

It's between TD88 and the Penta now - the Orbital is a little big to go on the front of the flat I think....

planning permissions best 2 ask them as my housing ( mine as changed there terms ) over sky or any satellite dishs . get there reply in wiring 2 cover u.

all so reading ur in a flat ,

next door might not be happy u putting it up. aiso wake them up when moving.
best 2 ask housing b4 u put up £150+ unless u can aford 2 losed it.

I don't think planning permission will be an issue here. Loads of people around me already have 1m dishes up on walls... as well as countless Sky dishes.
