HD content (6800 super) will not play on SD (5400 super).
SD recorded on one of these should play on the other.
You can test this yourself with a USB memory stick (4 or 8 GB should be big enough, just have it FA**2 formatted. While viewing press record and stop it after a couple of minutes. Move USB stick to other receiver and use file list find recording on the USB stick and see if it plays that recording. Do same test other way.
Stay away from external powered USB hard discs. Get a USB 2.0 hard disc with a fast transfer speed.
On the 6000 super on the USB Menu under Disk Manager you find a Testing USB Speed try some friends USB drives

Giga, many thanks for that, just one question please, you mean by"USB 2.0 hard disc" that the item is powered by the TM and not external power adaptor???

No. A usb 2.0 HDD has a much transfer faster speed than a 1.0 usb HDD.

You need an HDD which gets its power thru the usb cable because those that have a seperate power supply tend to go to sleep and don't wake up to record stuff.

OK, What I am trying to ask is: the power comes from the TM through the USB cable to the HDD and not via a "Power Adaptor" from the mains similar to the Ex HDD I have with my PC???? Not a PC expert!!!!!!

if it can be powered externally = most of the times no good. Must be one without external power supply connection. Only USB connection.

basicly you need a portable external hard drive, these are USB powered and do not require an ac adaptor

Did you format it as fat 32 (without the space) before starting. If u don't then it probably wont work.

when inserting the Fa**2 formated (https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?t=111179) <= click here USB stick. TM should display some messages. Last should be PVR ready. When this happened, while viewing a channel press the recording button on the remote, a recording bar should appear, let it record some minutes and press stop. If you press the filelist on the remote it should show the recorded program and start previewing on top right window. check manual
PVR (p 42)
Instant Recording (p 45)

yes you can. Make sure no data is on the harddisc and goto the configuration screen of XP: computer management: disc management: remove partition. Create 1st partition primary in fat_32 4 GB and extended partition for other partition(s) with NTFS
