How do i activate DTS on dm 8000 using gemini 4.6 ? I get no sound with mkv files.
thanks for any help

Dunno about gemini images but generally speaking DTS cant be decoded by the box itself, it can only be passed through to an amp that can decode DTS, this can be done via spdif or the dvi/hdmi.
another option is to convert dts to ac3 .
latest one i watched - the toon planet 51 mkv bluray , great funny movie btw .

Hi raul

Yes 1080p no problems (even though its only 1080i).
here is a little pic of an mkv movie ,
actually cbgb bluray is 720p up to 1080p , 24 frames per second - depending on the download . i figured videomode needs to be set to 1080p24 to get the best result !

HI quailman . good to see u back m8 .
i am not very up on this mkv thing ?? is mkv a picture format ?
and am i right in thinking you can either download films in this format or
you have to use some tools to convert films to this format.
and am i also right in thinking that some images will not play them.
is mkv the same format that bluray uses or as good as and what is m2ts is that better than mkv
"The Matroska Multimedia Container is an open standard free container format, a file format that can hold an unlimited number of video, audio, picture or subtitle tracks inside a single file."
to summ it up ,
bluray movies can be stored in a single file thanks to mkv - it should work on any cvs based enigma2 images .
you should try it - i lost interest in HD channels - once i figured out there are actually current cinema movies available widely for download in 720p or 1080p , 24 frames per second - thanks to cbgb .
if your tv supports 1080p24 format , i found that videomode setting to be the best for bluray movies .

Hi m8, What raul said.
MKV is a file type that people use to covert m2ts to the same as AVI it a folder that can contain different video and audio types. M2ts is a raw blu ray file taken strait from the disc.

can you put these files straight on to your hard drive and play them from there.
could you just tell me is mkv just as good as true bluray

Yes 1080p no problems (even though its only 1080i).
Actually, 1080p24 is possible with mkv files using the autoresolution plugin with the appropriate settings enabled!
exactly , thats what i had to do - the autoresolution plugin did the trick ;)
some older lcd's/plasma's do not support 1080p24 though , so they have to run them movies in 1080i :)
i'm lucky mine does run 1080p24/25/30 .

There is no point coverting divx to mkv as you will not really gain anything.
Mkv is really for HD.

If your downloading then there should be no point in coverting unless it wont play on what you want it to.

If they don't take long to download - they aren't going to be BIG files, so they aren't going to be HD - which is the whole point.

i would of thought that alot of matroskas on the net have not been shot in a true hd camera just upscaled or coverted from standard format ?

To clear it up for you.
m2ts, mkv, avi, ect...... are just folders (file extensions) that are used to store different video and audio files.
The video and audio files can be different types depending on the sorce and can contain multiple layers eg two sound tracks DTS audio and ac3
m2ts is used on blu ray discs and people covert them to mkv so they can watch them on there media centers ie dreambox, ps3, xbox
When people covert m2ts, mkv, avi files they will edit the video and audio to make the file smaller for people who download, thats why mine is so big its not edited
Hope this helped.
