I've looked at buying one of these but the sheer size of the box makes me think it's a breeze block rather than a sleek, ***y, receiver.
Is it really as bulky as the physical specs suggest it is?

not seen one of these but I do know the dm800HD box is too small and thats why ppl like myself start changing the casing and using a larger box , which means you can then fit the psu and a 3.5 inch hdd inside the box , something that cannot be done on the dm800 in its standard too small case
frankly , I am more interested in it getting the job done and having the ability to have the psu and a 3.5 inch hdd inside it then size or sleekness or whatever , and in that regard my tm9100 is good , but isnt sleek or small or ***y !!
if you want small , sleek and ***y , go for a 5 foot tall blonde with the slender 38 , 22 , 34 inch figure :)
if you want a satellite box , get one that does the job you want
or do you all drive a ferrari for sleekness and looks instead of using a more practical car ? :)

agreed.
it does indeed get the job done - i would say its about 2inches hi - hardly a sky scraper.

well , I just measured a tm9100 at 2.5 inches high
a thomson sly box was 2 inches high approx
and a white sly plus box ( containing my dreambox ) was just under 3 inches high
any smaller and you wont get a 3.5 inch sata hdd inside them :)

Thanks for the answers so far. I should have been clearer - I did, of course, mean the S4000 HD.

Looks like a regular sized box to me - perhaps not as deep or as heavy as others. The non HDD version can have an external drive if you like - not sleek and ***y IMHO and requiring another power source. The pic at the top of the page is clearly not to scale.

The reason its bigger than some others is that it has twin tuners and space for a 3.5" HDD a bigger chasis will give more ventilation than that of a smaller receiver.
