Probably because you have not got Home or favourites on it now.
Try copying the file named 'mapsettings' from your old map folder into the new folder - it is possible that doing this may cause your Tomtom to freeze when it boots up, if it freezes - re-set it & then connect to Tomtom Home & try to use the 'Operate My Tomtom' feature - go to manage favourites & then edit one of them - don't have to make any changes but then save it. Try your Tomtom again, if it still freezes you will have to delete the mapsettings files & add your Home location & all your favourites manually.

Yes it's the one & it will be in your old map folder. Use windows explorer to copy & paste the file into the new map folder. You can try it first without using Tomtom Home to edit it - but if it freezes during boot up - then you'll have to use Tomtom Home to EDIT a favourite, then see if it works. If it still freezes on boot up then delete the file & you will have to add them all manually.

Connect your Tomtom to your PC & use Window Explorer to access the folders & files - then just copy the mapsettings.cfg file from your old map folder into the new map folder.

thanks Russell your a star done as you said and home and favs are back and it hasnt froze on start up , theres still 3 items not lit on device screen they are ( find alternative , view route and clear route ) is there any file i need to put back on from original map to get these back? if not its not a big problem .

Enter a route in - then those 3 items will light up - they can't work until you've entered a route.
If you are going to use the speed camera files I posted in here then yes copy all .OV2 & .BMP files into your map folder.

ok thanks . when i copy zoned speed camera files 7/4/10 into map folder using explorer , will device beep automatically when i approach new cameras or will i have to go to POI and put distances and warning sounds in?
also when new speed camera files come out will i just copy them in map folder again i.e. will new ones overwrite old ones or do you have to remove old speed cams from map folder . im nearly there now thanks to you Russell.:bow-004:

See here for warning sounds -

When new files are available just overwrite the existing files.

thanks Russell , heres tonights question , if i wanted to put celebrity voices on do i use explorer just the same and where do i put files , i think i read they go in root but i dont know where root is could you please explain in simple terms . thanks

Yes you can use explorer and they usually go into the folder named "voices", some of them also require activating - same method as the map activation.
Root - this is the first 'level' on the Tomtom memory - not in any folder.

ok ive d/loaded voices and each celebrity has 3 files in their folder ( bmp, chk, vif) which of these 3 files go in the voices folder ? or do they all need to go in . also how do i know if they need activating ? do i try them once they are loaded on device and if they dont work delete them and load then activate . thanks

All 3 files go into folder named voices. If they don't work try activating them (there are not many voices that need activating). If you still have a problem let me know which voice file you are using & any error message.
