Hi,

I have since a couple of years a DB7020 and DB7000, both connected to my private home net with several PC HD's connected and used as mediaservers.

I am now thinking about upgrading and increasing the net, including two or three new DB's, of at least one DB8000HD and one more DB HD.

The main questions I have regarding DB800:
- is it possible to combine an internal HDD (Im thinking about the 1Tb disk), and still be able to mount and access other harddisks in the local net from this DB?
- is it also possible to access this internal harddisk from other DB's in the local net?
- is it possible to install an external harddisk directly to the DB8000, instead of or on top of the internal harddisk, and wuold this external HDD also be available in all of the local network?
-as an alternative, installing a 4Tb Nas-server directly to the router, what are the pros and cons with that? Anyone experiencing any difficulties transmitting HD movies from such servers?

Regarding the optional DVD player:
- can it be installed together with two internal tuners at the same time?
- on the internal drive or on any other hard drive in the local net, is it possible to record and store films that are played on the internal DVD player?
- is high speed recording from the DVD player also possible?
- what is the general view on the capability to steer the DVD player from the DB remote compared to other advanced one-purpose-DVD-players?

Finally, I also wonder if you can tip me on which HD DB model is preferable in case
i) you have one TV screen connected and you just want to watch tv or recorded programs, but with high quality? DB100?
ii) if you want a twin tuner and HD - is DB8000 the only alternative?

Thanx for any answer, and thanx a bunch for all!

Yes

- is it also possible to access this internal harddisk from other DB's in the local net?
Yes

Only a USB HDD, you *could* extend the SATA cable outside the box.

I have a PC with 3TB connected to the network - works fine. Not tried a NAS, there may be issues with CIF/NFS but I don't know.

Regarding the optional DVD player:
- can it be installed together with two internal tuners at the same time?
Yes

- on the internal drive or on any other hard drive in the local net, is it possible to record and store films that are played on the internal DVD player?

Never seen the need - no idea

- is high speed recording from the DVD player also possible?

The specs say so - not tried.

- what is the general view on the capability to steer the DVD player from the DB remote compared to other advanced one-purpose-DVD-players?

Its not elegant, but it works fine.

Finally, I also wonder if you can tip me on which HD DB model is preferable in case

The DM8K is the only answer (at the moment) for Dreambox with 2 tuners

We have 3 DMs & 3 PCs (one is a server) on the local network; we can get data from any of them in any configuration. Don't tend to use the DM for DVD play, they are saved on the server as mkv files.
WIFI is NOT quick enough for DVD, but wired network is.

I really appreciate it Oldfart! Getting so quick response however, I just have to test my luck and add three more questions I forgot to ask:

- Is possible also to get a recordable DVD-player?
- Is Blue-Ray the only option or can you chose a normal DVD-player as well?

finally, ...regarding this forum, is it allowed to discuss CS...?

blue-ray is not yet ready for linux in general so it is not an option for db also.
the other question about cs is try to discuss it and you will see the result :)
my advice .......forget it :respect-055:

There are other foras in that case, so we keep that discussion separate...

you can ask any technical question about cs here - but if you are just searching cs partners look elsewhere .

Re: recordable DVD - never tried; DVDs are expensive compared to HDD!
I also use a CF which allows storing the EPG & the swap file.

Hi again,

Well my cs is exclusively within my own household. So if it is ok on the forum to discuss technical issues, then I of course would be very interested to know if it is possible to use the exact same set-up with DB8000 and the new DB500, as have worked great with my DB7000 as server and DB7020 as client, (that is with MGCam/NewCS).
Thus, I hope I can just add the same newcamd.list and mg_cfg as I have in my 7020 client in all new clients?

Another question about DB8000 - is possible to use the box for viewing youtube etc running on any pc in the network? or to be more demanding, would you say the DB can be as elegantly userfriendly as using the built-in DLNA on a new flatscreen TV?
If so, what plug-ins/add-ons do you need?

re. CS - try it & see..

youtube - I think I saw a plugin
the DM is soooo much more than a flatscreen with DLNA - there is a web browser plugin!
but, you need the keyboard.

OK, but if you only want to stick with the remote, would you still recommend using the DM8000 webbrowser rather than a DNLA switch? Given that you mainly want to use youtube, and maybe a mediaplayer?

Any tip where to find the webbrowsers? For 8000?
