have i got a genuine dreambox here ?

hello peeps.

my mate has just bought a dreambox DM800HD the same as me but im not sure if hes is an original or not ?

the reason i ask is because when booting up it has the bootloader as 76 and i wasnt aware clones has bootloaders of that high ?

its also got a gemini image on it and the screen says THE GEMINI PROJECT so any help on this so i know what im dealing with before i set it up for him as mine is a clone and has a bootloader of 72 on it.

if he bought it brand new the price will give you a clue as to weather or not its a genuine one... also try ythe genuine dreambox plug in and see if it registers..!!

is that in the control panel by pressing green ?

if so if it is a clone will it kill the box by checking with this ?

i just tried this now and it comes up with 12 letters and numbers does this indicate an original or clone ?

after you click send it should give you some details lower down the page, including production date dreambox model, serial no.
if these all match your box details then its genuine
(dont know what it says if you've got a clone, cos only tried it with my genuine box)
also as apriliarsvr has said the price is a good guide too, around £400 is genuine price

so taking into consideration no details came through on the test he has a clone - so now it also answers my other question about boot loader 76 being used on clones.

on my clone i have blackhole 0.12 with bootloader 72 on so would i be able to put that on my mates with bootloader 76 and it will keep it at 76 or if i put BH 0.12 on it would take it down to 72 like mine ?

not sure mate ive just text him but hes not replied yet but im sure he said about £220.

i know that about the price of a clone but i just wanted to know because of the bootlader 76 on as i didnt think clones had bootloaders that new on.

Easy option is connect your dm800HD to your router and check attached devices in router or Dhcp client list in router page you should be able to see the Mac address
00:12:34 = clone
09:34:00 = genuine

but at £220 unless its a good 2nd hand dm800HD then most likely since you cant complete the genuine test it probably is a clone as a genuine dm800HD should be £420 .
there is a plugin that is pre installed on recent Dream Elite images "genuine dreambox" plugin which will also tell you if genuine or not ,

yeh im certain its a clone but thats ok as long as i know what im up against when updating it and stuff for him.

do you know if i put BH 0.12 on if it would downgrade the bootloader from 76 to 72 the same as mine ??

yes, it should downgrade the bootloader, as this is usually built in to the image...

thanks mate at least i know not to downgrade - can i use a image to take mine from 72 to 76 or does that come into the sim thing that ive read ?
