Password change Dream elite

Hi all
Got myself a VU+ and got it all setup fine except i can not change the password from blank.
I tried with telnet but no go, any clues how to do it?

In windows go to control panel - add programs - windows features

select telnet client and install.

when done start menu - all programs - accesories
right click command prompt and select run as administrator.

New console pops up. Type telnet leave a space then type ip of box.Press enter.
Should ask for user.Type root then press enter.Will then ask for password.Just press enter.you should then be logged into box.
Type passwd then press enter.It will ask for new password.Type new password and press enter.It will ask for password to be repeated.Type new password again and press enter.Should then say password successfully changed.Close window job done.

Note I havent spelt it wrong the change password command is passwd not password.

i was doing wrong
