Which version of firmware are you using on the smargo ?
And is it set for dreambox mode or normal ?
From memory you now need to switch it back to normal with OE 1.6

when I go to smartreader and click on misc it says smartreader version v1.0.0.2
when i open the smargo v1.4 updater it says found smartreader on com10 then it comes up uplug and plug smartreader I do that then after a while the loader bar goes to 100% but when I check smartreader it says version v1.0.0.2
Confusing:001_07:
why would you update to 1.4, is pulled from official website as problematic stay on 1.3

Hi Giga
Thanks for the reply
I have been trying to update the smargo all day to v1.4 and v1.5 with no luck.
Tried v1.3 and first time updated successfully, Things are looking up :)
Hopefully now it will work in the dm800

Still no joy
I have pressed yes at device manager for smargo
I have put boxkey in cfg
And put these lines in cfg
SERIAL READER : /dev/ttyUSB0
SMARTCARD CLOCK FREQUENCY : /dev/ttyUSB0 6000000
BOXKEY : /dev/ttyUSB0 01 02 03 04
SMARTCARD SID ASSIGN : /dev/ttyUSB0
Does this look right
check that smargo is on USB port 0 with dmesg when you connect smargo without card after 20 seconds issue this command or simular on your box.
tdi_sio 1-1:1.0: FTDI USB Serial Device converter detected
drivers/usb/serial/ftdi_sio.c: Detected FT232BM
usb 1-1: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB#
where # would be the USB port
Hi Guys,
Sorry to jump into someone else's thread, but I have the exact same problem. Been using Nabilo BH 12 for some time, and decided to upgrade to Dream Elite 1.3.3. It's working perfectly, but it won't recognize my Smargo. I went back to BH12 just to check, and it's working fine there. When I go to Dream Elite, I get "no or unknown card inserted" even though I have changed the cfg file setting to SERIAL READER : /dev/ttyUSB0. I'm not too sure what firmware is on the Smargo, but it is working with BH 12.

Hi Guys,
Quick update to confirm that you do need to change the kernel setting on the Smargo from "DreamBox" to "Normal" as Sonic1 suggested. Once I did that, and re-connected the Smargo to the Dreambox, it worked perfectly after a re-start.

Hi Giga
Theres a whole list of stuff that comes on screen when I type the Dmesg command but I cant see anything for the smargo.
if you disconnect the smargo card reader from your dreambox, boot up dreambox an let it settle, then connect the smargo card reader wait a little again, it should be the last lines if smargo was detected.
do a dmesg > satpimps.txt you should then find then satpimps.txt in folder root. FTP it from your dreambox to your computer and use word processor to search for USB.

some USB information should show, if not there is a problem with installation or hardware?
Don't you need to enable FTDSIO on some control panel or install drivers in dream elite image? don't have this info, sorry.
Yes you need to install drivers via blue button in dream elite.
I have 4 smargos connected to dm800 with latest dream elite image and all worked straight away "out of the box" once drivers loaded.

I have went to blue button kernel modules manager then selected yEs for
smargo and other usb cardreaders chipset ftdi.
Its the only thing I can see in that section is this the driver for the smargo?

thats the one I selected.
Dont forget as others have stated smargo needs to be in normal mode not dreambox mode

Make sure you get one from the board sponsor, places like fleb@y are full of fakes.

I will do, the old one for some reason is completely dead the green light is on but when put into pc it does not even see it.
It will be going cheap on Fleabay when I get my new one if anyone is interested :) ( only joking )

Got the new smargo today Plugged it into the dreambox and it worked first time,
As sonic says make sure you get a genuine product it will save you time and money which I learned the hard way :respect-055:.
don't upgrade to 1.4 & 1.5: could brick smargo, 1.3 is current official release
