I was just wondering whether I can play downloaded recordings on my portable external drive on my Technomate 6900 HD receiver?
yes, if you can convert the download file to .trp (MPEG Transport Stream), could be easier playing at flat screen if it has this capability?

Thanks giga. Just to be clear I'm trying to convert downloaded films in .wav format into a format on my external WD 500, that can be viewed through my Samsung 6000 series flat screen HD TV. I was thinking of playing them through an external HD connection on my technomate 6900 super HD receiver.
don't use technomate as media player, just connect USB harddisc:
convert any media you have
Wave -> MP3
Video -> MKV, AVI, MP4
...
there should be a page in the Samsung manual showing what is supported for what extension what video and audio codecs are supported.
Dolby 5.1 and DTS not supported
we can now make media on the PC and play these on Technomate PVR: check this one out: CT Movie Maker (https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?t=135344) <= click here
