Hi there,

I've got a Dell XPS 420, still using Vista. which used to play Blu-ray discs in PowerDEX DX.

A fes days ago, PowerDVD DX kept on asking to update... and update,.. and I updated... and it does not play anymmore any blu-ray discs, which it used to play before. It plays DVDs OK.

The drive is PLDS BD RE DH-4B1S (or PLDS DH-4B1S SATA HH 4X BD-RE) with the latest firmware 7D16, A04 FW).

It has worked OK till a few days ago.

As there is no newer FW for the drive, I decided to upgrade the graphics driver (Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX (768 MB) to the latest one (257.21_desktop_win7_winvista_32b it_international_whql). No luck.

So I decided to uninstall Dell's PowerDVD 7.3 and install instead a preactivated version of PowerDVD (PowerDVD.10.Mark.II.Ultra.v10.0. 1830.51.Preactivated) hoping that it would work...

Unfortunately, I still get a message telling me that PowerDVD needs to update... I update... it updates succesfully... but it soes not play blu-ray discs!!!!

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks.

Hi highway1,
Thansk for your help.
Yes, fw for drive is the right make and model, as per dell's website, latest and working perfectly well untill recently.

I did uninstall powerdvd dx from contrlol panel, restarted and then installed the new powerdvd.

Apparently, other people have similar problem with powerdvd dx 8.x from dell and also have problems getting a cd from dell... that is why I installed PowerDVD.10.Mark.II.Ultra.v10.0. 1830.51.Preactivated... but it does not work either.

I still get a message telling me that PowerDVD needs to update... I update... it updates succesfully... but it does not play blu-ray discs!!!!

Thanks.

Any other suuegstions?

Thanks.

Mmm... I am bit worried about uninstaling the drive...

I will first investigate WinDVD, and see what happens.

In the meantime, other suggestiions are also welcome.

Thanks.
