Vu+ hostname help

My vu+ used to come up on my router as bm750 but the other day i tried to change it to Vu+ Duo i altered the file etc/hostname and now it just shows up as a dot not even bm750 anymore the chmod is set to 644 as it was before can anyone help me out with any other files that may need changing

I don't think a '+' is a valid character in a hostname.

I may be wrong, but try a name with just alpha-numerics.
