Hi,
Just upgraded (from a Technomate 6900) to the Dreambox 8000 with a 1TB HD & DVD burner - oh what a nice box :-) - such excellent picture/sound quality...
It has the standard (up to date) image on it... and, as I would like to watch some channels that are not free - understand i need to replace this image with something else (an image other than the one it has on now).
Could anyone suggest a good solid image that would enable me to upload keys (something with a CAM emulation in-built)?
Do I also need any extra software in order to load the new image onto the unit?
Cheers for any help and advice...
Dan

Do you have cards for the services you want to watch?

I have no cards as yet - its more like I will mainly use the unit for its free SAT/DVB channels and PVR mode with web interface (so I can watch my TV while I am working away by remoting in).
With my technomate I could get keys from *****, etc. - load these in and have some fun watching thinsg that I couldnt normally... I was wondering - with the right image for the unit if I could do the same with this?

Image doesn't make any difference.
Keys are available on this forum for CCcam, which will work on all images.
beware, judging by recent post on here, 1.6 images are a bit flaky and you could be asking for a fair bit of help. 1.5 images are stable.

1.6 based images are stable and offer you a few extra features, whatever used to work with 1.5 images still works, apart from outdated plugins and this causes most users problems. You can't use a tape in a blu ray player right? Most people ignore the changelogs and install older plugins or use multiboot without having a 1.6 base image in flash. Before installing a new image, users need to read what the new image offers and how to install it, otherwise they come back complainig that their box is faulty which 99% isn't the case.
Been using a 1.6 image more than 2 months now, not a single restart.

1.6 based images are stable ....
They are all called 'experimental' ..........
There are different issues with these images, and you wouldn't know if it a user problem or an image problem, without a fair bit of forum searching.
As I said - I use 1.5 for the main box and 1.6 for playing on spare box.
As far as I can tell - the main difference with 1.6 is - it can use both cores of a dual core processor , maybe there are other differences?
But of course, development on 1.5 is ceased - so no new stuff to come out.
everyone is waiting for BR!!!

The experimental goes for the new features. Not for the old features. Streaming, sharing, recording, storing sat positions and so on, are issues that have been solved and are still working with 1.6.
If 1.6 had problems you would see many posts with users complaining, the only posts i see are from people who seem not to know that much about how to use their boxes.

me personaly thinks that a few member here are more content with proving they know more than the other alright ... there are nicer ways to get your point across instead of turning threads into a bitching contest or trying to prove member no little at all about there boxes .... there are thousands upon thousands of good examples of threads here .
you should read them you might all learn somthing.
just like plessy says ya carnt carnt get to the root of the problem without banging a few heads together first alright :sifone:
when new images come out such as 1.6 we need to get to learn them and it can be quite thrustraiting.... thats where you guys come in with the experiance..to carm the situation down so think on.
its daunting enough without being proven you know nothing
just chill out guys :cheers2:

Just because you couldn't get your image working doesn't mean we should advice new users not to use 1.6 images. I'm using 1.6 and i advice everyone to switch to 1.6. But before doing so, read the changelogs and read how to install it.
Everyones here to read and learn. And before complaining about bitching you should respect all users personal time trying to solve your own personal problems. Read, chill and once you are done reading, do some more reading.

I have used 1.6 images since they were released, always dream elite in the flash but have run gemini and LT images in meoboot.
I haven't had any problems with plugins but have only used a few and perhaps more importantly these have always been from the image download menu as I assume these are suitable and are tried and tested for a 1.6 image and work OK.
We are all here to help each other and if anyone posts a problem I think other members would soon offer ideas to solve it.

me thinks that 3rd party writers of images do not always get it right.
and i have to wonder why oozoon have not yet released a stable version of 1.6 they know a hole lot more than any of us do and there normaly spot on when they release a stable version.
and have you ever wondered why thousands upon thousands of crimes go unreported each year because poeple just carnt be bothered for one reason or another

Dreambox provides the engine of the car, 3rd party image writers provide the pimping. If dreambox calls their drivers experimental, image writers will call their images experimental as well.
If you feel you have spotted a bug and you can be bothered, then post it here or the 3rd party image makers official forums. Complaints such as my box is not working, picture quality is bad, or i've got a hardware problem without giving information about you setup cannot be identified and solved.

that might be all fine and well but that doesnt answer the question as to why oozoon have not yet released a stable version of 1.6

I'll bet the OP of this thread is regretting his question!!
Methinks we have strayed and not been helpful.

i just read on another forum and i dont know if it rings true .
but the quote is after instaling a 1.6 image your box needs at least a couple of days to settle down and get used to the new drivers

Oozoon and the rest use these experimental drivers, thats why they call their images experimental as well. If dm releases drivers and calls them stable, so will image makers, if dm calls their drivers heathercar, image makers will name their images heathercar as well.

so it looks like you know the people who write the images then oozon dream elite dreambox the lot.. you must know them all personally how else would you know why they call ther images experimental or not
and my quote refering to drivers needing to settle down was quoted from another forum
not my words someone elses
maybe you could ask your friends at oozoon or dream elite if theres any truth in it or not and if thers no proof in it you can come back and proof me wrong

We are getting off topic. I don't like proving wrong, people who like being ignorant. I like showing people how to be less ignorant. Sorry for being so blunt, but you are wasting our free time, you asked for help, we offered it, take it or leave.
