possibly the converter is not so good on receiving hardware signals or the drivers used on your pc dont work so good.
It could also be that the program you use is not compatible with usb to com cables as there is a difference on the way the buffer is created.
What OS do you have?
And what usb to com?

hello snakie,im using xp service pack3 the usb to com isnt branded but the driver is called ch341 if that makes any sense.ive installed it and my pc says its working correctly,in device manager theres no conflicts everything is ok,it just doesnt work.

Supposed to be for Winchiphead CH341 USB-RS232 Converter.
But i never used them so i dont really know how good are they.
I would suggest to get another one maybe with prolific chipset.
