Hi,

I've updated firmware from time to time. The latest firmware is 4890KGD(back from 5020). I've tried to play 1080p mkv movies via usb hard disk but I have no luck. All the movies are jerky but it will be ok for 720p mkv. I've tried Priority Manager and 4890KGD, but they can't help.... It's quite ok when playing via internal hard disk(sata)

I wonder that all of you can play 1080p via usb smoothly or not?? Is there any solution for this problem?? I didn't play any mkv movies with my azbox premium for half year since I got a PlayOn HD.

Many thanks in advance....

Can I just ask the size of your MKV's on the internal HDD? I thought internal could only handle up to 4GB file sizes?

Theres no 4GB limit. Ive got a few 1080p (ac3 audio) movies larger then 7GB and they play fine :)
Ive also got "The lord of the rings" which is 11.8GB

Ok thanks bulmers. Is that a standard formatted HDD, ie formatted via the AZ Box?

Regarding your problem, I've spent the last two days myself trying to resolve the same problem of 1080p over USB myself. Tried loads of different setups, firmware etc, but no improvements. Hopefully someone will have a solution.

The HDD must formatted in Linux ext2, or ext3, if you will store movies larger than 4GB. The azbox will format the HDD in ext2.

Just a note: ext2 is faster than ext3, I tested. Even there is a huge difference for FTP speeds. I think this is related with opensat firmware ? IDK..

Right now, I have the answer for myself..... The cause is from the docking bundled when buying PlayON HD. If I use PlayON with internal hard disk as a usb hard disk, it can play 1080p movies quite as smooth as from azbox internal hard disk. I'm using 4890KGD with multimedia maximizer is on.

By the way, the dts sound drop still exists, damn............

So, for play mkv movies EXT2 is better? I have an HDD external formatted in EXT3. If it's better, I will format to EXT2. =]
